Rock Bar
Tucked into the Maret area of Koh Samui, this laid-back seaside bar draws a loyal crowd with its reggae-inspired atmosphere, breezy ocean views, and genuinely relaxed vibe. Multi-level seating winds through the space, with each level offering a slightly different perspective over the water — the kind of place that rewards a slow explore rather than a quick drink and leave. It sits firmly in hidden-gem territory, well away from the louder club scene that dominates parts of the island. The setup is intentionally simple and affordable. Cold drinks are the main draw, complemented by a short food menu that regulars rate well — the fried rice and banana with coconut milk are frequently mentioned by visitors. Reggae music plays throughout, staff are consistently praised for being welcoming without being overbearing, and cannabis is available on-site, which is worth factoring in when planning the evening. Rock Bar opens at 11:00 AM daily, making it a natural fit for a slow afternoon drink as much as a late night out. Most nights run until 2:00 AM, though Sunday closes earlier at midnight. Arriving in the late afternoon is a practical move — the crowd builds as the evening progresses, and the better spots tend to fill up once the sun starts to drop.

What a special bar, totally chilled atmosphere & really friendly staff. This was our favourite bar on the island 🏝️ the moment you arrived the Reggie music is playing and you feel relaxed. The seating is floor cushions & if you’re feeling adventurous you can sit on the rocks. We were even spoilt to a fire show🔥 This is well worth the visit if you like a chilled atmosphere a beer and a smoke 💚💨

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
