Rock Bar
Tucked into the Maret area of Koh Samui, Rock Bar is a laid-back seaside bar with a distinctly reggae-inspired character. Multi-level seating winds through the space, with each level offering a slightly different vantage point over the water — visitors consistently note the breezy ocean views and the way the setting unfolds as you explore. The relaxed, island-style atmosphere draws a mix of travellers and locals looking for something low-key rather than a high-energy club scene. The bar keeps things simple and affordable, with cold drinks, a short food menu, and reggae music setting the tone from the moment guests arrive. Reviewers highlight the fried rice and banana with coconut milk as solid food options, though many come primarily for the drinks and the vibe. Staff are frequently praised for being welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. Cannabis is also available on-site, which is worth knowing for visitors planning their evening accordingly. Rock Bar opens at 11:00 AM daily, making it equally suited to a lazy afternoon drink as it is to a late night out. It runs until 2:00 AM most nights but closes earlier at midnight on Sundays. Given its hidden-gem reputation, arriving in the late afternoon is a good way to secure a preferred spot before the evening crowd builds.

What a special bar, totally chilled atmosphere & really friendly staff. This was our favourite bar on the island 🏝️ the moment you arrived the Reggie music is playing and you feel relaxed. The seating is floor cushions & if you’re feeling adventurous you can sit on the rocks. We were even spoilt to a fire show🔥 This is well worth the visit if you like a chilled atmosphere a beer and a smoke 💚💨

Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
