Speed Lounge & Bar
Tucked into the Maret district of Lamai, Speed Lounge & Bar has built a strong following among both repeat visitors and locals drawn in by its resident live band. The group performs regularly and is frequently cited by guests as the standout reason to visit, delivering high-energy sets with strong vocals that keep the atmosphere lively without tipping into the rowdiness associated with some of Chaweng's busier venues. Inside, the lounge strikes a balance between festive and relaxed — comfortable enough for a quiet drink, animated enough to make a night of it. Staff are consistently praised for attentive, friendly service, and the mid-range pricing keeps it accessible for most travellers. Whether visiting solo, as a couple, or in a group, the social setup works well for all. Good to know: Speed Lounge is located in Lamai rather than Chaweng, which makes it a solid alternative for those who want live music and a genuine atmosphere without the heavier party-strip crowds. Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth checking with your accommodation or stopping by earlier in the evening to confirm when the band starts. Arriving before the main set begins is a good way to secure seating.

Visitor Reviews
For us, this is the best bar&lounge in Lamai on Koh Samui. We've been here three nights and the atmosphere is always relaxed and festive. The Speed band is absolutely the best: amazing vocals and fantastic musicians (the guitar player is just unbeatable). The hostess is the epitome of hospitality and greets all her guests personally and makes us feel as if we're regulars. Will definitely come back to party when we're in Lamai again.
I would say that Speed Lounge is the best bar/club in Lamai and possibly even in the whole of Samui, as the bars in Chaweng can get very rowdy! They have a live band performing in Speed Lounge, and then DJ Tony finishes off the night with an EPIC set. Very friendly staff working there, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place. 5*

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
