Makro Supermarket
Part of Thailand's well-established Makro chain, this large-format hypermarket in Tambon Maret is one of Koh Samui's most practical shopping stops for travellers with access to a kitchen. The store covers an extensive range of departments — fresh produce, butchery, seafood, bakery, frozen goods, household supplies, and kitchenware — making it straightforward to shop for full meals rather than piecing together supplies from smaller resort-area stores. Both retail and bulk purchasing are available across most categories, offering considerably better value than convenience stores closer to tourist strips. The atmosphere is functional and unhurried, catering primarily to local residents and longer-stay visitors rather than day-trippers. Standout sections include a well-stocked fresh vegetable and fruit display, an impressive meat and seafood counter, and a bakery producing fresh sweet breads. Ready-to-eat options such as barbecued chicken are also available for a quick, affordable meal without cooking. The seafood counter offers a cleaning and preparation service, a useful convenience for those buying fresh fish or shellfish to cook themselves. The store opens daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, providing flexible access throughout the day. An ATM is available on-site, and a large car park makes it easy to visit by scooter or car. Morning and early afternoon tend to be the quietest times to visit; weekends can see heavier foot traffic from locals doing their weekly shop.

Visitor Reviews
It's very good supermarket. Very nice seafood, butchery even bakery. As well Macro has ATM and and a lot parking lot. Recommend to visit there for shopping. Don't forget, you can order to clean a seafood for free. Just pick up a fish and go to scale table. There salesman will help you, just ask to clean fish.
Great big supermarket. Good selection of fruit, veggies, meat, European needs. You can get pretty much anything you need for cooking your own meals. Ready barbecued chicken available! Big selection of alcohol as well. More affordable than 7/11.
Makro in Koh Samui is a great place to shop, especially if you’re staying somewhere with a kitchen. There’s a huge selection of products, and the fresh produce section is particularly impressive. Everything looks well organized and the store itself has a clean, modern feel. If you’re planning to cook at home during your stay, this is definitely the place to stock up. Great variety, good quality, and plenty of choice.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
