The Viper Room Rock Pub
Tucked away in the Maret area of Koh Samui, this rock pub has built a loyal following among travellers and locals alike, drawing in those who appreciate good music, cold beer, and genuine conversation. Owners Rob and his wife are a consistent highlight in visitor accounts, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a gathering of friends than a typical tourist bar. The venue attracts rock, metal, and punk fans looking for an alternative to the island's more mainstream nightlife. Visitors can expect a casual, unpretentious setting where the music takes centre stage and the drinks are affordable. The crowd tends to be sociable and international, making it a natural spot for solo travellers or anyone keen to swap stories over a few beers. The bar also serves food, giving guests a reason to settle in for the evening rather than just passing through. Good to know: The Maret location places it slightly off the beaten track compared to Lamai and Chaweng, but many visitors report discovering it through local research or word of mouth and finding it well worth the detour. It is worth checking locally before making the trip. Given the relaxed, rock-focused atmosphere, there is no dress code to speak of, and smart casual or casual clothing is perfectly appropriate.

In short: An absolute gem for rock and metal lovers! 🤘 The Viper Room Rock Pub has an incredible community - we met so many amazing people, and the atmosphere is just fantastic. The possibility to request music makes it even more special, ensuring every visit is uniquely tailored to the guests. Talking to the owner was another highlight - he is such a cool and friendly host. And he for sure truly understands the heart of rock and metal culture. If you're addicted to heavy riffs and electrifying vibes, this place is a must-visit! We’ll definitely be back. Keep metal and rock alive and heavy! 🤘🔥
Best evening spot we found in two months on Samui. Great rock music, amazing hosts — Rob and his wife — and a cozy, welcoming vibe. We met so many interesting people here, and when we first arrived, the whole bar helped us find a place to stay and get our bearings. Truly a heartfelt place. Oh, and by the way — the local food here is absolutely delicious!
One of the coolest bars ever. Listen to great tunes, swap stories with other travelers, and drink cold beers. What more do you want in life?

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
