Taraburee (ธาราบุรี)

4.4(1,348 reviews)$$$$

Taraburee is a raft restaurant situated on the River Kwai along Songkwai Road in central Kanchanaburi, offering riverside dining with open views of the water. The floating setting gives it a distinct atmosphere that sets it apart from standard town restaurants, and the venue draws both local diners and travellers passing through the province. The menu focuses on authentic local Thai cuisine, with dishes like Tom Yum and fried fish appearing regularly among visitor orders. Food quality is generally well-regarded, though some reviewers note that portion sizes on certain dishes may feel modest relative to the price. Live music occasionally features in the evenings, adding to the relaxed riverside atmosphere. The kitchen handles a steady flow of guests, and service is generally attentive, particularly during quieter periods. Good to know: Taraburee is open every day from 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM with no weekly closing day, making it a reliable option throughout any Kanchanaburi itinerary. Arriving around an hour before sunset is a popular choice for those wanting a riverside table in good light, though it is worth noting that tables near the water may need to be prepared on request, so some short wait should be expected during busier periods. The restaurant is within easy reach of central Kanchanaburi, making it a convenient lunch or dinner stop when exploring the town and its surroundings.

Wow! We ate here on a Monday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves!very clean, quick professional service, gorgeous river views, and the food was delicious! Thank you for the wonderful lunch!

Raft restaurant with a lovely few on the river. Live music was nice, solo performer with Neil Young repertoire. Food: Fried fish was okay, but small for its price, Tom Yum was richly filled with seafood, the taste was strong. Pad Khao Phu, the crab was maybe in the river, found nothing in the rice. Staff: We came early in the late afternoon, about 5 pm. A lot of staff present, you sipp a bit of your coke, and they rush to fill your glasses up. We had the Tom Yum served without any bowl and spoon, we had to ask the waitress two times for it and she gave us an disturbed look. No thank you or goodbye after our dinner. My conclusion is that some of the staff could be a bit more service minded.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
