Kanchanaburi Walking Street
This Saturday night market transforms Pakprak Road into a lively evening destination, combining a historic streetscape of pre-WWII Chinese migration-era buildings with a casual open-air marketplace. Bilingual signage along the street tells the stories behind some of the older buildings, giving the market a cultural depth that goes beyond typical weekend shopping. The setting beside the river adds to the relaxed atmosphere, making it a natural gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. Food is a genuine highlight here, with vendors offering a notably strong selection of vegan-friendly options alongside the usual range of Thai street food. The market has a reputation for feeling clean and well-maintained, and the mix of small retailers, handmade goods, and casual dining spots keeps the pace unhurried. The atmosphere leans local rather than tourist-oriented, which suits travellers looking for an authentic slice of everyday Kanchanaburi life. Outside of Saturday evenings, the historic street itself is still worth a short stroll, though most visitors find an hour sufficient. Good to know: The market runs on Saturday evenings only, from 6 PM to 10 PM, so timing a Kanchanaburi stay around a Saturday night is worth considering. Bring cash, as many vendors are unlikely to accept cards, and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on an open street in warm evening temperatures.

Visitor Reviews
This weekend night market had one of the best selections of vegan friendly food I have seen. The place felt very clean and well looked after & there were so many delicious things to eat! Wonderful. 🩵
Beautiful Saturday night down by the river.
A supposedly historic street that is flanked by buildings going back to before WW2, you can walk down this street and read about the story behind some of the buildings. There are Thai and English language boards. Our tour group brought us down here so it's quite an interesting walk, although nothing really spectacular.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
