Why go, and how to do it well
Eat where the island eats. This is a shared hall of separate vendors, each running their own small kitchen, and the whole thing works the way food courts work all over Thailand. You walk the row, look at what's in the pans, and order from whoever appeals. Noodle soups, rice plates, curries, stir-fries. Nothing dressed up for anyone.
It's cheap enough that indecision costs you nothing. Order from one stall, eat, then go back and get something else from a different one. That's the whole point of the format, and it's a good way to work out what you actually like before you spend real money on it elsewhere. Don't come expecting service, décor or a view. Come hungry, around midday or early evening when the turnover is highest and the food's freshest.
If you can't name what you want, pointing is completely normal here and nobody minds. It's how half the line orders.
