Mueang Kanchanaburi Fresh Market
This working neighbourhood market in central Kanchanaburi operates as a genuine local marketplace rather than a tourist attraction, offering one of the more unfiltered glimpses into everyday Thai life available in town. Stalls are stocked with fresh vegetables, fruit, seafood, and meat alongside more adventurous local specialities such as frog, intestines, and other ingredients rarely encountered outside Thailand. The atmosphere is lively and unpretentious, and prices are competitive throughout. The market occupies a covered space, though the number of vendors open inside can vary. Temporary stalls frequently spill onto the surrounding streets, often offering a comparable range of goods to the market itself. For travellers in self-catering accommodation, it serves as a practical source of fresh ingredients, while others visit simply to observe and sample the variety on offer. Good to know: Although the listed opening hours run from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily, multiple visitors strongly recommend arriving in the morning, with 7:00 AM considered the best time for the widest selection and freshest produce. Arriving later in the day risks finding stalls already closed or supplies significantly picked over. Cash is essential, as card payments are not accepted at vendor stalls, and comfortable shoes are advisable for navigating what can be a crowded and uneven market floor.

Visitor Reviews
Great market, full of fresh vegetable and fruit. The prices are also good. The only thing is, you have to come in the morning, if you come later you can be disappointed as I was the first time.
Go in the morning! 07:00 is best, 07:30 okay too. Friendly folks, amazing choices of foods. Everything is close in Kanchanaburi
An average market with many stalls but some how not many were opened when I was there. Instead, the road are packed with temporarily stall and sell almost just as many variety as the market itself.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
