The Lab Bar & Wine Chiang Rai
Tucked along Phaholyothin Road in central Chiang Rai, The Lab Bar & Wine is a craft cocktail bar that stands out in a city not typically known for its nightlife scene. The concept leans into a science-lab aesthetic, with LED lighting integrated throughout the space — including beneath drink coasters — creating a moody, futuristic ambience that sets it apart from the typical Thai bar experience. The drinks menu spans classic cocktails, creative twists, and original signature creations, and visitors consistently highlight the quality and craft behind each glass. The bar is owner-operated, with the owner working behind the bar directly, which gives the place a personal, welcoming feel. Staff are frequently praised for being attentive and genuinely warm — a combination that makes the experience as much about hospitality as it is about the drinks themselves. The Lab opens daily at 10:00 and runs until midnight, making it a flexible option whether you are looking for an early evening drink or a late-night wind-down. It is a relatively intimate, low-key space rather than a loud party venue, so it suits travellers who prefer good conversation and interesting cocktails over a club atmosphere. Checking the Facebook page before visiting is recommended for any updates on special events or menu changes.

Visitor Reviews
We were so lucky to stumble on this amazing bar! We were visiting Chiang Rai on our honeymoon about a month ago and decided we wanted to get a drink (I had accidentally booked a hotel that didn’t serve alcohol) and I am so glad I chose The Lab bar. The staff were so amazing and clearly loved what they do (making amazing drinks!). We were chatting and told them it was our honeymoon so they made us a special honeymoon drink (3 pink cocktails and a shot). The staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a good time and chatted to us, it was lovely. If you’re in Chiang Rai and looking for a good place, with good vibes and super delicious drinks (and food!), then do not snooze on this place!
Low key craft cocktail bar. Somewhat dim in there but LEDs are integrated all throughout (including coasters beneath your drink) to simulate this futuristic bar. The staff was nice and made our drinks quickly. Also serving some complimentary savory/spicy pub snack. Standard strong Old Fashioned but garnished with a mint around 230 baht
happy to explore a new world of classic cocktails, twist cocktails, and signature cocktails. great atmosphere, music and very friendly owner who are a bartender aswell. Wonderful chilling out and enjoy

Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
