Reggae Home & Bar

4.8(236 reviews)

Tucked into the Mueang district of Chiang Rai, Reggae Home & Bar has built a loyal following among both travellers and locals for its genuinely welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of character. The decor is original and interesting, the sound system is well-regarded, and a classic pool table serves as a natural social focal point — the kind of setup that turns a solo drink into an evening with new friends. Visitors consistently highlight the warmth of the staff as what sets this bar apart. The bartenders, including the much-praised Niid, have a reputation for making guests feel at home rather than just served. Reggae music sets the mood throughout, keeping the atmosphere easygoing rather than intense. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the overall vibe leans casual and unpretentious. It is worth noting that one visitor found the beer warm and the seating uncomfortable, so expectations should be calibrated accordingly — this is a neighbourhood bar with personality, not a polished cocktail lounge. Good to know: Reggae Home & Bar opens at 7 PM every night of the week and closes at midnight, making it a consistent and reliable option for evening plans in Chiang Rai. Arriving around 8 PM or later tends to mean a livelier atmosphere. Dress code is casual, and the Facebook page listed on the website is the best place to check for any updates before visiting.

Visitor Reviews

The Reggae Home and Bar in Chiang Rai is truly homely. I felt so comfortable and at ease — to be honest, I even felt a bit spoiled by Niid, the wonderful bartender. On the day I was travelling to Chiang Rai, I was browsing the map for the main town area to decide where to stay. The moment I spotted this bar on the map, I booked a place as close to it as possible. I just knew this was going to be my spot at the end of each day during my two-day stay — and I’m happy to say, I was right. I met a few of the bar guests on both nights I visited. It was exactly the kind of chilled reggae bar I had imagined. Niid was running the show from behind the counter, serving up smashing drinks. On the second evening, I noticed her fixing a curious green drink for herself. Intrigued, I asked if I could have a taste — she smiled and obliged. It turned out to be a fun, lemony gin cocktail finished with a dash of Blue Curaçao to give it its vibrant green tint. Naturally, I ended up ordering a couple of rounds. Just delicious, and such a vibe! My friend played pool with some young Brits who were visiting. The music was spot on, the vibe was relaxed, and everyone felt both welcoming and welcomed all at once. The drinks are very well-priced — you can drink all night without worrying about going broke — and to top it off, Niid is generous with her pours (no measuring cups in sight!). I love a bartender who knows how to pour with heart. Highly recommend this joint to anyone who enjoys a good drink, fun conversation, and some good old reggae music.

The vibe of this bar was amazing. The staff in the bar were so hospital and friendly which made the whole visit very special and appreciated. Me and two other friends from Sweden came here and had a blast! The people in this bar were so nice as well, one of the best nights in Thailand so far! Would strongly recommend this for a place to take a beer or just a place to chat to people :)

This is a really great bar. Excellent sound system, interesting and original decor but what makes it special is the fabulous welcome and superb service. Also, the classic pool table is the focus of friendly, good humoured fun. The best bar we found in Chiang Rai

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars

Carry Your Passport or a Copy

Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.

Know the Closing Times

Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.

Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously

Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
