Chamonpond Massage
Tucked along Phaholyothin Road in central Chiang Rai, this local Akha family-run massage shop has built a quiet reputation for delivering professional-quality treatments at accessible prices. Visitors consistently highlight the therapists' skill and attentiveness, with particular praise for therapeutic work on problem areas such as back tension — a sign that the staff bring genuine technique rather than a formulaic approach. Guests can expect a no-frills, unassuming interior that belies the quality of care inside. Thai oil massage is among the offerings, and therapists are noted for reading pressure preferences well, responding accurately to requests for light or medium intensity. While some reviewers have noted that small upgrades — such as a foot wash station or enhanced massage beds — would elevate the experience further, the overall consensus is that the standard of massage more than compensates. A basic level of English is spoken, which is reassuring for international travellers navigating their first visit. As a small, locally operated business, the shop can feel intimate, and the experience is shaped heavily by whoever is working that day. Arriving with a clear sense of what you need — whether relaxation or targeted relief — will help the therapists tailor the session accordingly. Given its local popularity, visiting earlier in the day or outside peak tourist hours is a practical way to secure a spot without a long wait.

Visitor Reviews
Had a great massage here. This is a local Akha family business, so decent English spoken. The man massaged me, I asked for medium pressure, and he was spot on. Worked on a problem with my back and it has definitely helped. A no nonsense massage shop, nothing fancy, and a low price for good quality service. I will come again on my next visit to Chian Rai.
WOW. Best massage I’ve ever had truly. This woman knows what she’s doing, it was amazing. I’m so glad I looked past the unassuming interior. Only bummer was some loud, rude older men who came in halfway through and wouldn’t stop talking. But that’s not the masseuse’s fault :)
Yes they are really good. And the low price is not justified, they are professional and doing very well.

Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas
Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
