Why go, and how to do it well
Calypso Cabaret is Bangkok's long-running ladyboy cabaret, established in 1988 and now staged in a theatre inside Asiatique The Riverfront, the night market and shopping complex on Charoen Krung Road beside the Chao Phraya. The cast of Thai transgender performers lip-syncs and dances through sixteen numbers, with comedy in between, and the show runs about 50 minutes.
There are two shows a night, at 19:15 and 21:00. Booked on Calypso's own website, standard seats start at ฿900, premium seats with a drink at ฿1,700 and VIP seats in the front rows with a drink and a snack at ฿2,200, and the walk-up price at the box office is higher, ฿1,200 for a standard seat. Children under 120 cm who sit on a lap go free. The site also sells the show with a Thai set dinner or a White Orchid river cruise.
Asiatique is on the river south of the center, close to BTS Saphan Taksin, and pairs naturally with an evening at the night market before or after the show.

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
Arrange Your Ride Home
Use Grab (ride-hailing app) to get home safely — taxis outside nightlife areas late at night often refuse meters. Set up the app before going out, and keep your phone charged.
