Kodtalay The Riverfront Seafood Buffet

4.9(44,430 reviews)$$$$

Situated along the Chao Phraya riverfront in Bangkok's Sathorn district, this seafood buffet restaurant draws a loyal following for its combination of fresh seafood, wide variety, and open-air riverside setting. The buffet format spans a broad selection of preparations, with grilled prawns and river prawns among the standout options, alongside hot and cold dishes that cater to both seafood enthusiasts and those seeking variety in a single sitting. The atmosphere benefits directly from its waterfront position, offering river views and natural ventilation that set it apart from typical Bangkok buffet venues. The restaurant operates daily from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, accommodating both afternoon and evening diners throughout the week. The venue is well set up for international visitors, though first-time guests should note there are some house rules and procedures to follow before dining, which are straightforward once explained. The mid-range pricing makes it accessible relative to Bangkok's broader dining landscape. For practical planning, arriving earlier in the afternoon, around 2:00 to 4:00 PM, typically means a quieter experience and fresher buffet selections ahead of the peak evening crowd. Weekend evenings in particular tend to draw larger numbers, so flexibility with timing is worth considering. Casual, comfortable clothing is appropriate given the open-air setting and the extended dining time typical of buffet meals. The Facebook page listed on the restaurant's profile is the primary source for current pricing and any updates.

Visitor Reviews

I found this seafood buffet randomly on Google Maps. It had a 4.9 rating with more than 40,000 reviews, which honestly surprised me and made me think it should be quite reliable, so I decided to give it a try. I also searched online beforehand and most of the feedback was positive. I see they have several branches in Bangkok. This location starts at 599 THB per adult. The sign at the entrance says “no time limit,” but in reality they still give you a dining time window and expect you to finish within that period. However, if you arrive later in the evening the time limit doesn’t really matter. The location is actually very nice. It’s not far from the BTS station, and they even provide a free shuttle cart that can pick you up from the BTS or nearby night market and take you directly to the restaurant. The restaurant sits right by the riverside, and you can see the River. If you come around sunset, you can enjoy the river view and ferries passing by, the atmosphere and scenery are excellent. I was satisfied with the environment, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Whenever you waved your hand, someone would come to help almost immediately. If you want a table right by the river, you’ll probably need a reservation or wait for other guests to leave. We arrived around 6 PM and it was already full of people. As for the food, there is a huge variety and most items tasted good. The buffet offers live shrimp and live crab, oysters, sushi, salmon and tuna sashimi, hot pot ingredients, freshly cooked dishes, desserts, ice cream, drinks, Thai salads, tom yum soup and more, overall the selection is very extensive and you can eat as much as you want. The dessert section was also nice, they have packaged ice cream as well as scoopable ones. also the crepe is good too, it's soft, not the hard ones; they were surprisingly good. The live shrimp were constantly restocked, and the kitchen kept refilling cooked dishes, fruits, and fresh oysters regularly. The area I think could be improved is the drink section. It would be great if they added fruit smoothies or blended drinks. Currently they only offer soft drinks, Thai milk tea, and flavored beverages. Fresh coconuts are sold separately (60 THB each or 2 for 100 THB). Also, try not to waste foods, their staff will check your table when you leave. Adding a steamer pot costs an extra 100 THB. Overall, 599 THB might be 100–200 THB more expensive than some other seafood buffets in Bangkok, but considering the riverside location, atmosphere, service quality, and wide food selection, I think the price difference is reasonable. If you only care about eating shrimp and not the environment, there are cheaper places elsewhere. This was our first visit and I was quite satisfied. I would very likely come back again on my next trip to Bangkok. For now, I consider this place is recommended.

This is a popular seafood restaurant that clearly caters to international guests. There are a few steps and rules to follow before dining, which can feel a bit much at first but it’s understandable given how crowded the place gets. The food selection is impressive, with multiple stations and a wide variety of dishes. Everything we tried was delicious, and they’re definitely not stingy with portions. The riverside view is absolutely beautiful, and I highly recommend choosing a seat by the river , open air, fresh breeze, and stunning scenery. If you sit in the tented area, be aware that when it’s full, the smoke from the grills can build up and become overwhelming at times. That’s why riverside seating is definitely the better choice. It’s a great place to go with a group of friends , fun, filling, and full of variety. Drinks like beer and coconut water are extra, but everything else is refillable and there’s a good selection. I’d happily return but next time, it’s riverside seats for me!

In terms of variety of food, the quality, the freshness and cleanliness, the location and customer service along with the price, Kodtalay The Riverfront is hands down the best BBQ/Buffet in Thailand. Whilst my friend feasted on fresh prawns, crabs, crabs legs, sushi and freshly chucked oysters I leaned more to the non seafood dishes such as the pizza and chicken lasagne which were both excellent. If you are in Bangkok for any length of time, love seafood or buffets in general, make sure Kodtalay is on your bucket list. Our advice is to book ahead through someone like Trip.com to guarantee a table as they get busy (small booking fee of around 100 baht) and once confirmed you can request a table location. We recommend outside on the rivers edge (inside can get stuffy). Base cost is 599 baht for all you can eat (excludes lobster). We paid an extra 49 baht for free flow soft drinks. A 600ml bottle of local beer is 120 baht. Exceptional value.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
