Best Beach Resorts in Koh Samui

Koh Samui's top beachfront resorts with tropical gardens, infinity pools, and island luxury.

On Samui, the beach you choose decides the holiday, so that's how we've organized our picks. Chaweng's six-kilometre crescent holds the biggest names and the busiest scene. Lamai delivers nearly the same sand at lower prices. And the north coast, from Bophut through Maenam to Choeng Mon, hides the island's quiet luxury, from W Koh Samui's cliff-edge pools to Four Seasons' private-villa hillside. Unlike Phuket, almost everything sits on one ring road, so no resort choice strands you more than 30–40 minutes from the action. This list (updated July 2026) covers 15 resorts with guest ratings and a live rate check on every one.

One quirk worth planning around: Samui runs on the Gulf weather calendar, so its rain concentrates in October and November. That makes it Thailand's best beach bet for June-to-August travel, exactly when the Andaman coast around Phuket and Krabi is in monsoon. Peak pricing hits December–February and July–August, and the shoulder months of April–June and September cut rates 30–40% at the same properties.

Chaweng & Chaweng Noi — the main event

Six kilometres of the island's best-known sand, with the densest concentration of restaurants, bars and shops behind it. Chaweng Noi, the smaller bay just south over the headland, gets the same water with a fraction of the foot traffic — which is why the upscale properties cluster there rather than on the main strip. Best for a first visit when you want everything walkable.

Lamai — the same sand for less

Samui's second beach, and the island's clearest value play: sand almost the equal of Chaweng's, a smaller and more relaxed town behind it, and rates that run meaningfully below the equivalent property up north. The stretch has quietly acquired some serious resorts on its headlands. Best for repeat visitors and anyone who wants beach-town life without Chaweng's crowds.

Bophut & Choeng Mon — the boutique northeast

The most consistently recommended corner of Samui for couples and families. Bophut has Fisherman's Village, the island's best dinner-and-a-stroll evening, while Choeng Mon's sheltered cove is about as calm and shallow as Thai swimming gets. Ten to twenty minutes from Chaweng's restaurants, which means you give up very little by sleeping somewhere peaceful.

Maenam & the north shore — quiet luxury

A long, flat, notably empty beach looking across to Koh Phangan, and the address of choice for Samui's largest estates. There is very little to walk to — that is the point. Expect the island's highest rates and its best privacy, with Fisherman's Village a ten-minute drive east when you want dinner out.

Adults-only lifestyle resort on Maenam beach — pools, pool parties, and a social crowd without Chaweng's chaos.

The west coast — sunsets and seclusion

Samui's quietest shore, and the only side of the island that faces the sunset. The water here is shallow, warm and glassy rather than swimmable-deep, and you are a 30–40 minute drive from Chaweng, so this coast suits travellers who intend to stay put. In exchange you get the emptiest beaches on Samui and the best evening light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which part of Koh Samui has the best beach resorts?
Chaweng has the widest choice and the island's classic white-sand beach, with north Chaweng the calmer luxury end and the center built for walk-to-everything convenience. Lamai offers the best value for equivalent sand. For seclusion, look north: Choeng Mon's calm cove for families, Maenam's long quiet beach (home to W Koh Samui and Four Seasons), and Bophut for boutique stays near Fisherman's Village dining.
How much do Koh Samui beach resorts cost?
Mid-range beachfront resorts run ฿2,000–4,500 per night in Chaweng and ฿1,500–3,500 in Lamai and Maenam. The luxury tier, which is Vana Belle, Silavadee, W Koh Samui, and Four Seasons territory, starts around ฿8,000 and climbs past ฿25,000 for pool villas. Peak season from December to February and again in July and August adds 30–50%. Book the shoulder months and you get the same rooms at a steep discount.
When is the best time for a Koh Samui beach holiday?
December to April is the prime dry stretch, and unusually for Thailand, June to August stays largely sunny too, because Samui sits in the Gulf and misses the southwest monsoon that soaks Phuket and Krabi. The months to avoid for beach weather are October and November, when the island takes most of its annual rain.
Is it better to stay in Chaweng or somewhere quieter?
First visit with nightlife and dining priorities? Chaweng, ideally the northern end. Couples and families who want calm usually do better at Choeng Mon, Bophut, or Lamai, since the restaurants of Chaweng and Fisherman's Village stay within a 10–25 minute ride. You sacrifice very little by sleeping somewhere peaceful.
Which part of Koh Samui has the best beaches?
The east coast has the classic postcard sand. Chaweng is the longest and liveliest, Lamai is nearly its equal with fewer people, and little Silver Beach between them is the prettiest small cove on the island. The north around Maenam and Bophut trades a touch of sand quality for calm water and sunset views of Koh Phangan, while the west coast has the calmest, shallowest water and the island's only sunsets.
What is the most luxurious area in Koh Samui?
The north and northeast. Maenam's headlands hold the Four Seasons and Santiburi estates, Choeng Mon's coves host the upscale family resorts, and the hillsides above Chaweng Noi and Lamai carry pool-villa showpieces like Vana Belle and Silavadee. As a rule, Samui's five-stars sit just outside the busy beaches rather than on them, buying seclusion while keeping town ten minutes away.
