Koh Samui's longest beach runs down the east coast in a wide white arc with turquoise water in front and a solid wall of resorts behind, everything from cheap guesthouses to the smart end. If you want your bed, your dinner and your third beer all within a short walk of the sand, this is where you stay.
The road running parallel to the beach is packed with beach clubs, open-air restaurants and bars, and it stays lively long after dark. Sunbeds and water sports rentals are easy to find during the day. What you won't find is quiet. Anyone after empty coastline and the sound of their own thoughts should look elsewhere on the island, because Chaweng gets crowded and it gets loud, and that's rather the point.
