This modest but historically significant structure is one of only two remaining sections of the fortified wall that once encircled the original Rattanakosin island settlement, built in the 1780s during the founding of Bangkok. At its peak, the wall stretched approximately 7.2 kilometres and was punctuated by 14 forts along its length. The other surviving section can be found nearby at Mahakan Fort, making it possible to visit both in a single outing for those with a deeper interest in early Bangkok history. Visitors should set realistic expectations before making the trip. This is a wall remnant viewed largely from across the road rather than an immersive heritage site, and there is limited infrastructure around it beyond a few nearby market stalls and a cafe. That said, the brickwork is well maintained and offers a tangible connection to the city's origins, standing in quiet contrast to the bustle of the surrounding Phra Nakhon district. The site sits directly opposite Wat Bowon Niwet and is a short walk from Khao San Road, making it a natural add-on for anyone already exploring the area. The surrounding footpath is narrow and traffic moves close to the wall, so pedestrians should take care. As an open-air landmark accessible around the clock, there is no entry fee and no formal opening restriction, though daytime visits are recommended for the best visibility and safety.

Awesome place in near the Khao San road Bangkok.

One of two remaining sections of the old Rattanakosin city wall, the other one's located not far away at Mahakan Fort. Built in the 1780's it was around 7,2 km long and had 14 forts along the wall and also 63 gates for access to the city. This section is 1,8 meters thick and 6 meters high, I guess it had the same dimensions all the way, and also have one of the old gates. It's not really much to see here and the steps up to the wall still exists but the top of the wall as been blocked of. It's been restored and maintained so was in good condition when I visited 2023 01 18. Close by to Khaosan Rd so easy to walk here if you're in the area of you have the interest 😎 I have a Youtube channel with videos from different forts & bunkers that I've filmed with both drone and normal camera. Interesting to see if you're in the area. Not something I would make great effort to see. The walls are very thick and has an interesting design. It's just a piece of wall to view from across the road. It would be good if there was an information board about this but of historical structure.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.

Mind Your Feet

Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.

Ask Before Photographing

Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
