Kan Eang Restaurant - ร้านกันเอง

4.5(4,695 reviews)$$$$

Kan Eang is a well-established Thai seafood restaurant sitting beside the ocean in Rawai, on Phuket's quieter southeastern coast. Built on original family recipes refined over generations, it has earned a loyal following among both locals and visitors looking for authentic Phuket cooking rather than tourist-facing approximations. The menu leans heavily on the sea, with Phuket lobster and a wide variety of fresh fish preparations drawing particular praise from diners. The setting combines a large, well-decorated dining space with direct ocean views, making it suitable for anything from a relaxed solo meal to a group gathering or a romantic dinner. Dishes arrive with balanced, traditional flavors, and the variety on the menu is broad enough that repeat visits are common — several diners report returning consecutive days to work through more of it. Service is consistently described as friendly and attentive. Pricing sits at the mid-range level, offering good value given the freshness and quality of the seafood on offer. Good to know: Rawai is a short drive from the busier beach areas of southern Phuket, so this restaurant works well as a destination in its own right or as part of a day exploring the southern tip of the island. Opening hours are not published online, so it is worth checking locally or contacting the restaurant before making the trip, especially for an evening meal. Given its reputation and the size of the dining room, it accommodates both walk-ins and larger groups, but arriving early during peak holiday periods is advisable.

Visitor Reviews

Beautiful seaside restaurant with fantastic seafood and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor - exactly what you want by the sea. Huge thank you to Nan, my waitress, who was absolutely amazing. She was professional, attentive and genuinely kind, making the whole experience even better. Her service and attention to the details truly stood out. Highly recommend - great fresh seafood, great view and outstanding service! P.S. I’ve asked to make me a mocktail in a special cocktail glass and Nan and bar team happily accommodated my request☺️

Kan Eang @ Pier is a true Phuket legend! It’s famous for being the 'Best Local Seafood Restaurant,' and you can really taste why. Their original family recipes, perfected over many years and generations, bring a depth of flavor you won’t find anywhere else. The setting is absolutely stunning—it's located right on the beach with an incredible sea view, making for a very special atmosphere. A huge bonus is the ample parking space, which is a relief in such a popular area. Whether you're here for the history, the view, or the world-class seafood, this place is a must-visit!

Seafood is incredibly fresh - the Phuket lobster had a wonderful sweetness to the meat! We also really enjoyed the house dishes as they were well thought out and had very balanced flavors. Service is prompt and friendly without being intrusive or overbearing. As for the atmosphere - some light background jazz, warm (but thankfully not dim) lighting, and a lovely view of the pier and the sea make this an outstanding spot. Do be aware that this is an outdoor restaurant, so your experience will be effected by the weather.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
