DiveSafe Phuket

4.9(304 reviews)

Based in Rawai on Phuket's southern coast, DiveSafe Phuket operates as a full-service dive centre offering everything from beginner certification courses to multi-day guided dive trips across the Andaman Sea. The business is owner-operated, with Roman frequently leading courses and dives personally alongside his team of instructors. Courses available include Open Water, Advanced, and Nitrox certifications, and the operation covers popular offshore sites including the Phi Phi Islands.

Reviewers consistently highlight the quality of instruction, the organisation of pickups and drop-offs from accommodation, and the standard of the boats used — several guests note that meals are provided onboard during full-day trips. The focus on safety and structured teaching makes it a practical choice for first-time divers, while the range of guided dive sites appeals to those returning to diving after a break or looking to build on existing certifications.

Reviews from Google

I booked 3 full days of diving with DiveSafe Phuket. The care and hospitality of their service, the boats I was placed on, and the given dive guides was all amazing. The boats I was placed on had a cap of 40-60 people on board, but we're so large and had the facilities that I never felt this many people. DiveSafe had made clear at most the diver to guide ratio would be 2:1, which is why I chose them - absolutely worth it. My first 2 days I was with Takashi (Phi Phi/Dok Mai/Racha Noi/Racha Yai), an experienced diver who was educational and clear throughout. I was fortunate enough to have Takashi 1:1 on both these days. He is by far the best guide/instructor I have ever had diving. He was attentive, meticulous, and took time to explain everything. He brought a spare diving compute from for me and gave a great price iok getting his underwater photos and videos. He also did these handwritten dive notes that were amazing and unique to him. I have never seen or heard of this before, but it exemplifies his oltop level service. My last day was with Jom at King Cruiser/Anemone Reef/Dok Mai, who was also good and helpful - frequently checking on me mid-dive to ensure no issues. Absolutely not his fault, or DiveSafe/the boat, but just to mention there wasn't anything worth seeing at these spots - except for a pack of hunting Barracuda at the Reef. DiveSafe Phuket also have additional extras if you wish - for example I rented a dive torch for King Cruiser on my last day. Takashi had warned me visibility might not be the best and there is also marine life in the holes and corners. TL/DR; Clearly a well run service with connections in the area, would happily book again.

I recently completed my Open Water, Advanced, and Nitrox certifications with Roman at Divesafe Phuket. The quality of instruction across all three courses was outstanding. Roman’s approach to safety is thorough and professional – he ensures you understand not just the procedures but the reasoning behind them. His teaching style is clear and effective, which made progressing through the certifications straightforward. What sets Roman apart is his ability to maintain a professional standard while creating a comfortable learning environment. His personable nature made the multi-day training experience genuinely enjoyable. Divesafe Phuket has earned my full recommendation, and I look forward to diving with them again in the future.

We came to Phuket to learn diving and chose this dive shop based on its five-star rating. Our instructor, Tim, ironically, during the first dive, my equipment had an air leak, and the instructor said “it doesn’t matter” and continued, showing a lack of concern for student safety. The most unacceptable incident happened later. Because the instructor was unhappy with how we placed our equipment, he angrily picked up my belongings and threw them toward the ocean. As a result, my Garmin watch, worth around USD640, was thrown into the sea and lost. Tim and the shop owner, Roman, later claimed that the instructor’s emotional reaction was caused by how we placed our equipment, and they therefore refused to take responsibility or provide any compensation. Throughout the process, Tim’s attitude was very reckless and unprofessional, while Roman continuously protected his colleague, avoided responsibility, and ignored our messages. In addition, the photos taken by the instructor were ridiculous as you can see below, and charged 1,500 THB per day for them. The instructor’s reckless behavior put students’ safety at risk. Anyone planning to dive in Phuket should carefully consider other, more responsible dive shops.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
