Khaothong Hill
Perched on a hill in Tambon Khao Thong, this open-air restaurant earns its reputation primarily through its dramatic setting — panoramic views stretching across limestone karsts, turquoise waters, and the islands of Phang Nga Bay. It is the kind of scenery that draws visitors back for a second look, and the hilltop position makes it a popular stop for both lunch and the golden-hour light before sunset. The food and drinks are mid-range in price and cover familiar Thai and Western dishes, though visitor reviews suggest the setting outshines the menu. The coffee receives consistently warm mentions, while some dishes — including the soft shell crab salad — have drawn mixed feedback. Cocktails have been noted as light on flavour, so food-focused visitors may want to stick to simpler orders. The atmosphere is relaxed and scenic, drawing a mix of tourists and locals throughout the day. Getting here requires a roughly 30-minute drive from Ao Nang, followed by a short ride up to the hilltop — a motorbike taxi service operates from the base of the hill for around 60 baht. The restaurant opens daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and arriving in the late afternoon allows visitors to enjoy the views in the best light and potentially stay for sunset. Check the Facebook page before visiting for any updates on access or hours.

Visitor Reviews
Khaothong Hill is one of those places that feels a little tucked away, which honestly adds to the charm. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Ao Nang, and you’ll need to park at the base of the hill and take a shuttle up for 60 baht. That felt completely reasonable since they don’t allow all vehicles to drive up. Taxis can drop you there, but getting one back isn’t guaranteed, so it’s definitely worth negotiating with your driver to wait. The real reason to come here is the view. Perched on the hilltop, the cafe overlooks the ocean and Krabi’s dramatic karst peaks, and sunset is absolutely the best time to visit. You get an almost 180-degree view of the sea, dotted with karst islands, with Phuket visible in the distance. It’s incredibly picturesque and feels very peaceful. The cafe itself has two levels — air-conditioned indoor seating and a natural outdoor area. The outdoor section does come with a 1,000 baht minimum spend per table, which makes sense for groups but feels a bit steep if you’re visiting solo. Food-wise, everything was solid. I tried the fried calamari, quinoa salad with prawns, and spaghetti, and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The cream mayonnaise served with the calamari was especially memorable. Overall, a scenic and relaxing spot that’s well worth the trip for sunset views.
A very beautiful and picturesque place. If you want to feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard, it’s definitely worth the trip up here. The panoramic view over the turquoise water and limestone islands is absolutely breathtaking, and every angle is photo-worthy. Khaothong Hill ร้านอาหารเขาทองฮิลล์ is special not only for its scenery but also for its atmosphere. Set high on a hill, it offers a peaceful escape with a wide, open view of Phang Nga Bay. It’s the perfect place to relax with a drink or a meal while enjoying nature. Sunset here is especially magical, with soft colors over the islands and sea. A must-visit for anyone who loves nature, views, and calm, memorable places.
GORGEOUS VIEWS!!!!!! And delicious coffee!! It does cost 60 baht to get a ride to the top but soo worth it. Definitely come here for pictures!!! And staying for sunset would be stunning. Even the bathroom has amazing views!!!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
