The Oyster bar x Samui

4.9(1,300 reviews)

Tucked along Hat Lamai Road on the southern side of Koh Samui, this dedicated oyster bar has built a strong following among both repeat visitors and first-timers seeking something beyond the typical island seafood experience. The focus is squarely on oysters, with an unusually wide selection of imported breeds from different origins — a rarity in this part of Thailand — complemented by other fresh seafood preparations, premium wines, and craft cocktails including tableside presentations like smoked Scotch. The atmosphere leans upscale but accessible, combining the relaxed coastal spirit of Koh Samui with a bar and grill setting that suits everything from a casual evening drink to a dedicated seafood dinner. Staff are notably knowledgeable about the oyster selection and are happy to guide guests through the menu, making it a welcoming option even for those less familiar with oyster varieties. The combination of a well-stocked wine list and cocktail programme means it works equally well as a dining destination or a place to linger over drinks. Good to know: Specific opening hours are not listed online, so contacting the venue directly before visiting is advisable, particularly if planning an evening out. Given that oyster availability depends on daily supply, arriving earlier in the evening generally offers the best selection. The location near Lamai Beach means the dress code is relaxed, though the overall vibe skews slightly smarter than a typical beachside shack.

2nd time here after many years. My absolute favourite place in Samui! No Gillardeau but so many interesting breeds of imported oysters, which is perfect. I already have my favourite fresh Gillardeau place in Bangkok, thus having something very different here is a must. Staff taught me the way to check oyster freshness as well. Scallop crudo is so refreshing! Lobster tail soup as well. The flathead lobster too had a distinct taste. While I was doubtful about the cream pasta dad ordered, it way surpassed my expectations! Not the bland kind but fresh with distinct herbal taste. My father even commented that the sauce would even accompany beef steaks very well.

I've been to Samui many times, but never been to such an amazing place before. Once stepping in, I found an Oysters menu with wide diversity of Oysters, sea food and premium wines. The team was super friendly, welcomed us with a black bread and Butter, making us feel a bit like in France. Sea food was really good, and they also offer an OTH Lemonchello shot. If you're into the Oysters, don't miss this hidden jem!

The service was phenomenal and great attention to detail. I never had a smoky Scotch. The bartender brought it over and showed us how it was done. The staff were very informative about the different oysters. The atmosphere was fun and we were right on the road, high class experience but not missing the rest of the action. The oysters are a must if you are in the area. Make sure to bring your bestie. :)

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
