Meeting Bar Samui – Live Music & Thai Food
Tucked along the road between Bophut and Mae Nam, this casual bar and Thai restaurant draws visitors looking for genuine local nightlife away from Koh Samui's busier tourist strips. The owner, Pan, is a talented guitarist and singer who anchors the nightly live music sessions, which often evolve into spontaneous open jams and karaoke — giving the venue an unpredictable, communal energy that keeps evenings interesting. It functions equally well as a restaurant and a bar, so guests can settle in for a full night rather than hopping between venues. The food is cooked fresh to order and consistently described by visitors as genuinely good and reasonably priced, while the cocktails lean affordable without sacrificing quality. A large pool table adds another reason to linger, and the staff are frequently noted for being warm and attentive. The atmosphere skews local and relaxed rather than polished and touristy, making it a natural spot for striking up conversations with both residents and fellow travellers. Good to know: The Mae Nam area has a quieter, more residential character than Chaweng or Lamai, so the vibe here is intentionally low-key — which is precisely part of the appeal. No website or listed opening hours are currently available online, so it is worth asking at your accommodation for the latest schedule or simply dropping by in the evening. Live music runs nightly, but the open session format means the experience can vary depending on who turns up to play.

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
