The Secret Sawan
Tucked along the quieter stretch of Maenam beach, The Secret Sawan is a handbuilt beach bar that earns its name — easy to miss, but hard to forget once found. Owner Born (also referred to by visitors as Bon) has crafted a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, personally greeting guests and creating a space that feels personal rather than commercial. It sits right on the sand, offering unobstructed beach views and a relaxed setting well removed from the busier tourist strips on the island. The vibe here leans laid-back throughout the day and into the evening, with good music, cold drinks, and a crowd that tends to stay longer than planned. As a gastropub and bar, it caters to those looking to unwind over drinks with a view rather than a high-energy night out. The setting rewards those who simply want to spend hours by the water without feeling rushed or overcrowded. Given its low-key location in Maenam — a district known for being calmer than Chaweng or Lamai — The Secret Sawan suits travellers who prefer a more authentic, unhurried side of Koh Samui. It works equally well as a daytime beach stop or an evening hangout. No website or listed hours are available, so arriving during daylight hours and asking locally is the practical approach, particularly for first-time visitors.

Visitor Reviews
Stumbled across this little beach bar while walking along Maenam — and honestly, it’s one of my favorite spots on the island now. Super chilled vibe, amazing view, and you’re literally right on the sand. The owners are lovely, really friendly and welcoming. They’ve got live music some nights which is great — not too loud, just the right vibe. Prices are very reasonable, and if you’re hungry, you can order Thai food straight from the kitchen. Everything’s fresh and tasty. Feels like one of those rare places that hasn’t been overrun by tourists yet. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area and want something low-key with a great atmosphere.
I don't know what to say. We have already read the positive reviews about this bar and knew directly: "We have to go there!" We were warmly welcomed by Born, and he introduced himself to everyone in person. This man exudes such a kindness and satisfaction, which is why you can only find this place great. The drinks are great, and I can only recommend everyone to try their passionfruit smoothie, cocktail or the fruit itself. He grows them himself, and you can taste it. Thank you for this great experience and continued success!
The vibe is super relaxed, the music is great, and the owner is super friendly and welcoming. perfect for enjoying the beach with a cold drink. It’s also a great spot in the evening to hang out and have a nice drink. Thanks for the good times 🌴
Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
