Mr. Kai Kitchen
Tucked into the Bo Put neighbourhood on Koh Samui's northern coast, this casual Thai kitchen has built a devoted following among both visitors and locals. The budget-friendly menu spans noodle dishes, curries, and more, with vegetarian travellers particularly well catered for — tofu substitutions are readily available across most categories, making it one of the more reliable plant-based options in the area. The relaxed, unfussy atmosphere suits solo diners and groups equally, and staff are consistently noted for their warmth and attentiveness. Dishes are cooked to order, which keeps quality consistent but means wait times can stretch to 30–60 minutes during busy periods. The kitchen runs seven days a week from noon to 10 PM, covering lunch, dinner, and later evening meals without variation in hours. The affordable pricing makes it easy to order generously, and repeat visits within a single stay are common among guests who find something they enjoy on the first trip. Good to know: the restaurant draws steady crowds most evenings, so tables turn over reliably and walk-ins generally find a seat without a long wait. To avoid peak congestion and longer food wait times, arriving before 6 PM or later in the evening gives a more relaxed experience. Mr. Kai Kitchen maintains a Facebook page in lieu of a dedicated website, which is worth checking for any updates before visiting.

Visitor Reviews
We stayed on Koh Samui for one week and ate here four times – I think that says it all. An absolute recommendation and for us the best restaurant on the island. We tried several dishes from the menu, including Massaman curry, Panang curry, Tom Yum, papaya salad, fried papaya salad with prawns, corn salad, Pad Thai, deep fried seabass with garlic and deep fried seabass with Panang. Everything was incredibly delicious, authentically cooked and very fairly priced for Bophut. My girlfriend is vegetarian and always found great veggie options on the menu as well. The service was always very attentive and friendly, and we never had to wait for a table. A big thank you to the whole team for the amazing food and service! Recommendation: try the deep fried papaya salad! It's addictive.
Delicious food! We are vegetarian so always look out for places with good vegetarian options and Mr Kai Kitchen certainly delivers! Pretty much all noodle and curry options on the menu have a tofu or vegetable option which amazing! I had a tofu massaman and my wife had a tofu red curry with yellow noodles and we had a tofu satay to start! The food was honestly so delicious and on top of that, presentation was excellent! The staff are also extremely lovely and attentive- highly recommend for great veggie options!
Best Thai food in Koh Samui! We absolutely love this place. It is busy every night but we always find a table quickly. Very affordable and kind staff. Food can take 30-60 minutes when it is busy but it is worth the wait because it is delicious. Highly recommend the whole fried sea bass! Great outdoor seating with fans. We love this place and will definitely be returning!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
