Sleep Sheep Phuket Hostel SHA

4.2(102 reviews)

Situated in the heart of Phuket Old Town on Thanon Talang, Sleep Sheep Phuket Hostel SHA occupies a convenient base for travellers looking to explore the area's Sino-Portuguese architecture, local markets, and nearby cafes. The hostel offers both dormitory and private room options, and includes a free continental breakfast, along with an on-site cafe and communal area that some guests have found to be one of the more enjoyable aspects of the property. Rooms vary in quality, and prospective guests should be aware of some limitations flagged by visitors. Certain private rooms have no windows and rely entirely on air conditioning for ventilation. Dormitory beds currently lack privacy curtains, and lockers, while available in some rooms, have been noted as absent in others depending on the booking. Some guests have also reported additional charges for services and a mixed experience with staff, so it is worth clarifying inclusions and policies before arrival. Reception hours run from 08:00 to 20:00 every day of the week, which means late arrivals will need to arrange check-in in advance. The hostel carries the SHA (Safety and Health Administration) certification, indicating adherence to Thai health and hygiene standards. Travellers who prioritise location and value over amenities may find this a workable option for a short stay, but those seeking a more comfortable or fully equipped hostel experience are advised to review the latest booking details carefully before confirming.

Visitor Reviews

The check-in went smoothly, the communication worked very well in advance via Whatsapp. We had a double room on the second floor. Unfortunately, the room had no window and so we were 100% dependent on the AC. The whole house is very quiet and the sliding doors keep out very little noise. Especially if you are looking for a good night's sleep, you should take Oropax with you. All in all, I would still recommend the Sleep Sheep Hostel as a starting point for Phuket Town, as you can walk to the old town in 5-10 minutes.

I really liked the staff (very helpful), the cafe & restaurant area and the location of the hostel. The bathrooms were fine. And the lockers in the room are big But there are no privacy curtains around the beds in the dorms, and the blinds/curtains on the actual windows are transparent or broken. You also only get a large towel as a blanket. My room was noisy by the road & near to the night market, and there were people coming back into the room every hour I really wanted to like this hostel but I got absolutely no sleep here

I normally don’t leave bad reviews, but I decided that I have to after the bad treatment received from all staff at Sleep Sheep Hostel. I feel like I need to leave this as a proof for the future guests - since the owner WASN’T HONEST on the reply to my sister earlier today. On the sign that they have in multiple places along the property, it’s clearly stating that they charge THB100 per hour, starting from 11:30am. When we went to check out a few minutes before 12:30 (hence less than 1 - ONE hour later), the hostel tried to charge us THB200, which would be equivalent to 2 - TWO hours later. I am still trying to understand their math calculations and in which world it would be correct to try to charge us THB200. Would also like to clarify that, differently from what was said by the hostel owner, they were unfriendly from beginning to end, giving the stinky eye and rolling eyes even before we said we don’t agree to pay the THB200. The properly was clean, but it was misleading since the bathroom doesn’t match which what was announced on Booking.com. The bathroom in the photos had shower separate from toilet and the one in the room had the toilet very close next to the shower and the shower had NO curtains, so everything got wet! It was awful for 4 people showering and we would not have chosen this place if it had provided CORRECT photos. A hostel is also expected to provide sheets in all beds, instead NO sheets were provided

Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
