Asleep Hostel
Asleep Hostel is a family-owned property on Thanon Sangchuto in the heart of Kanchanaburi, well-positioned for exploring the region's World War II heritage sites, temples, and the scenic Khwae River. What sets it apart from typical budget accommodation is the genuine sense of community fostered by the owners, known warmly to guests as Mimi and Mama, whose hospitality consistently encourages travellers to extend their stays. The hostel strikes a balance between sociable and relaxed — lively enough to meet fellow travellers, but without the noise of a party hostel. Rooms are clean and spacious, and the property offers fast WiFi and affordable rates. A standout feature is the communal family dinner held every few days, where guests bring a small dish to share, creating an easy, informal way to connect with other travellers and get honest local recommendations from staff. Good to know: Kanchanaburi's peak season runs from November to February, when cooler weather draws more visitors, so booking ahead during this period is advisable. Travellers planning to stay more than a night or two will find the hostel well-suited as a base for day trips by bicycle, tuk-tuk, or organised tours. Check the hostel's website at asleephostel.com for current rates and availability before arrival.

Visitor Reviews
I originally planned 3 nights but stayed for 6. It is a really lovely hostel with a nice community feel to it and I think that is down to Mimi and Mama, and the travellers it attracts. It is super cheap and it has everything you need. The train station is a 5 minute walk away and the night market is around the corner. In the evening we have dinner with each other. I would recommend to anybody passing through. Thank you for a lovely stay!
As others have mentioned, this is a great place to just take it chill and relax. Great staff, very social, free family dinners at 7 (just need to bring a small dish to share), fast WiFi, very affordable, for the price I can't really complain about anything
Great sociable hostel without being too loud or party. Super friendly staff and very helpful. They have a family meal every couple days which is great! Clean, good location and great for meeting other travelers! Thank you Mimi!
Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts
Book Shoulder Season
May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.
Compare OTAs and Direct Rates
Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
