Butterfly Hostel, Pai
Butterfly Hostel sits in the Mae Yen area just outside central Pai, offering a peaceful retreat that balances proximity to town with a genuine sense of escape. Guests stay in comfortable bungalows set within a spacious garden, and the property draws consistently strong praise for its friendly, attentive staff and well-maintained rooms. A free shuttle service runs during the day, making it easy to reach central Pai without needing personal transport. The hostel's standout features include a daily breakfast buffet with a varied spread, clean and comfortable bungalows serviced every few days, and a relaxed open garden that encourages guests to slow down and unwind. The atmosphere leans toward the calm and sociable rather than the party-hostel end of the spectrum, making it a good fit for couples and solo travellers alike who want comfort without sacrificing the community feel of hostel travel. Good to know: The Mae Yen location sits far enough from Pai's busier streets to avoid noise, while remaining walkable to town for those who prefer it. Pai is best visited during the cool season from November to February, when the weather is most comfortable for getting around. Most travellers arrive by minibus from Chiang Mai, a journey of roughly three to four hours along winding mountain roads. Booking ahead is strongly advised during peak season, particularly over the Christmas and New Year period when accommodation fills quickly across town.

Visitor Reviews
We came across Butterfly hostel while looking for accommodation in Pai. We were offered a couple of different cabins and prices. We were shown the rooms before we decided to book. Butterfly hostel was amazing and made our whole experience in Pai brilliant. The staff were very welcoming, always smiling and helpful and made us feel valued. The free breakfast was a great bonus and was very good. There was free drinking water at the reception, the pool table, sofas and chairs and books were great for chilling out and socialising with other travelers. The free meal on Wednesdays was also a lovely surprise bonus. The Jerk Spot restaurant on site was also great, delicious food and friendly welcoming service. The cabin we stayed in was nice in a lovely well kept garden with nice views and seating areas. The free shuttle ride to town was another added bit of value. Internet in the cabin and the common area was good. If being really picky the water pressure of the shower is not amazing (its not terrible either) but this was a very small things though in what was overall an amazing stay where we were made to feel welcomed valued and were left in peace to relax. We were tempted to stay longer and would definitely come back and recommend Butterfly Hostel to anyone staying in Pai who wants a quiet relaxing chilled out stay surrounded by countryside. Thank you to the super friendly staff for making us feel so welcomed.
Absolutely loved my stay here at the Butterfly Hostel. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, really comfortable beds and spacious rooms, an amazing breakfast buffet each morning with a great variety of foods, a free dinner every Wednesday which was a great touch and the meal was delicious. 5 minute drive/20 minute walk from the centre of Pai which I think is a good thing because it offers a quieter experience whilst also being close to everything. The hostel is still social but at a much more laid back vibe. The hostel is surrounded by nature and they have a wonderful resting area with benches, hammocks and chairs to sit and enjoy. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in Pai and I’d 100% recommend!
This was the best place to stay in Pai! It is far enough out to escape the noise and chaos of the town but still close enough to walk back to hostel (and there's a free shuttle during the day if you want it). Lovely staff (including one who brought their kitten!), clean bungalow and perfect place to relax in the gardens looking at the view - they have lots of hammocks and sunloungers with plenty of shade. You also get free breakfast which is tasty and the on-site restaurant has nice food. As someone looking to enjoy Pai but not stay in a party hostel, this was absolutely perfect. Perfect for couples, friends or solo travellers looking for some quiet 😊
