Pai Walking Street
Pai Walking Street is the social heart of this northern Thai town, drawing locals and travellers alike to its nightly market that stretches along the main road from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM, seven days a week. What sets it apart from larger Thai night markets is its distinctly creative, bohemian character — stalls are largely run by local artisans selling handmade jewellery, clothing, and crafts, giving the market a more personal and community-driven feel than its urban counterparts. Food is a genuine highlight here, with an unusually diverse spread of cuisines for a small town. Visitors can find Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, and Myanmar dishes side by side, alongside street snacks and desserts — including the frequently praised mini pancakes and grilled corn. Live music adds to the relaxed atmosphere, and nearby bars make it easy to extend the evening after browsing. The market is compact rather than sprawling, which means it rewards a slower pace — arriving early, around opening time, allows for unhurried browsing before crowds build later in the evening, particularly on weekends. Bring cash, as many vendors do not accept card payments, and wear comfortable shoes for walking the stalls. For those staying in Pai, the walking street is a natural and effortless way to spend an evening.

Visitor Reviews
Pai Walking Street is the heart of Pai’s evening atmosphere. As the sun sets, the street comes alive with food stalls, handmade crafts, music, and a relaxed, backpacker-friendly vibe. Highlights • A wide variety of street food — Thai snacks, grilled items, desserts, fresh juices, and more • Handmade crafts, accessories, clothing, and local art stalls • Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with live music in some spots • Great place for night photography with colorful lights and cozy street scenes • Easy to walk and not overwhelmingly crowded compared to bigger city night markets • Most lively between sunset and around 9 PM Overall Pai Walking Street is perfect for a relaxed evening — grab some street food, wander slowly, and soak in the laid-back Pai vibe. It’s not huge, but it’s charming and worth spending an hour or two exploring.
Great food, great vibes 💯 This night market, like all other night markets in Thailand offers an array of shops and stalls selling clothes, jewellery, food, drinks, and snacks. The snacks looked good and I wished I could try all of them. I’d suggest everyone to walk around the entire place and try as many street food as you can. There are several halal options. We had gyoza/dumplings from a halal stall and it was so delicious! I had to urgently buy some clothes and the shop I was in was about to close but they didn’t rush me and helped me every way they could. It was really touching. I think most clothing stores close by 10 pm. The place got quieter around 11:30 pm except for the loud parties going on in the bars.
It’s rare to find a night market in Thailand that offers such a well-balanced mix of international cuisines, including Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, Arab, Indian, Chinese, Italian, and Myanmar food. This market stands out for its lively atmosphere and is a fun place to stroll through. Another unique touch is that many of the shoppers here are Western travelers, giving it a different vibe from typical night markets. I strongly recommend that anyone visiting Pai should not miss this attraction.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
