Yellow Fellow Hostel
Tucked inside Chiang Mai's historic old city, this well-regarded hostel draws independent travellers looking for a balance of social atmosphere and genuine comfort. Its central location places guests within easy walking distance of temples, night markets, local eateries, and the beloved North Gate Jazz Co-op, making it a practical and characterful base for exploring the city. The hostel also operates as something of a travel hub, with staff offering guidance on day trips and local experiences. The atmosphere leans social without tipping into rowdy — guests consistently highlight the chill common area and a bar out back as good spots to meet fellow travellers. Staff members receive frequent praise by name for their friendliness and helpfulness, and the hostel's smoothies come recommended by more than one guest. The property also functions as a tour and travel resource, useful for those planning excursions into Chiang Mai's surrounding countryside and temples. Good to know: A small number of reviews flag concerns about facilities, so it is worth reading recent feedback before booking to ensure expectations are aligned. As with most accommodation in Chiang Mai's old city, demand rises sharply between November and February during peak season, so booking ahead is advisable. The central location is a genuine asset for getting around without taxis, though light sleepers may want to request a room away from street-facing areas.

Visitor Reviews
I really enjoyed my stay here! The staff was friendly and the place had a good social atmosphere. They have a bar in the back, I didn’t get to check it out but it looked like a good place to meet people. Centrally located in Chiang Mai with easy access to the airport, various temples, and lots of great food. Will definitely stay here again if I come back to Chiang Mai!
We loved our stay at this hostel that we extended our stay! A perfect mix of social but not too loud at night. The location is perfect and is very central and easy to get to other places. The day trips offered by the hostel are also fab. Delphina and Sam definitely made our stay so much more enjoyable - what lovely reps!
Such a great place to stay in Chiang Mai, it’s close to many nice places to eat and cute cafes, as well as the famous North Gate jazz co-op! Two amazing ladies working here, Mei and Angie, were so helpful and lovely and made the stay even better 🫶

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
