About Shanghai Mansion Bangkok
Book this one for the location and take the theatrics as a bonus. It sits on Yaowarat Road itself, which means you walk out of the lobby and into Bangkok's best stretch of street food, past gold shops and shrine alleys, with Wat Mangkon MRT about three minutes away. If your trip is built around eating, there isn't a better address in the city.
The hotel leans hard into a 1930s Shanghai theme, and it commits. Lanterns, four-poster beds, silk, deep reds and jades. The building once housed an opera theater, which suits it. Downstairs the Red Rose Lounge does cocktails with live jazz. Some people find the whole thing a touch much and would rather have plain white walls and a big window. If that's you, stay somewhere else, because this is a mood before it's a room.
Bear in mind that Yaowarat is loud, busy and doesn't really stop. That's the point of staying here, but light sleepers should ask about a quieter room away from the road.
