W Beach

4.4(435 reviews)

W Beach is a small, quiet stretch of coastline on Koh Samui, notable for its dense palm tree coverage that provides natural shade along the shore. The beach is divided into two sections: a private area belonging to the W Koh Samui hotel and a public area where visitors are free to relax and access water sports. The calm atmosphere and relatively low foot traffic make it a genuinely peaceful alternative to busier beaches elsewhere on the island.

The setting leans toward natural simplicity rather than lively beach club energy. There are no bars or restaurants on the public side, and the water is consistently clean and clear. The hotel's bar operates on the private section, though visitors should be aware that pricing there is notably high — bringing your own refreshments to the public area is a practical and widely adopted approach among visitors.

Beautiful beach in a quite area of Koh Samui. The bwach has a private part belonging to W Koh Samui hotel and a public part. Both areas are nice. On the public part some water sports are available as well as a massage hut for those who like to get nassaged in public. In the private area you will find a bar whichbis attached to the hotel and hence priced above the usual bar prices on the island.

Amazing stay at W Beach - great vibe, beautiful location, and perfect for a relaxed yet stylish getaway. Loved every moment and would happily come back

This is a private beach of W Resort or whatever the name is, so we were kindly asked to leave or spend 2000 THB per person which is ridiculous. Next to the bar there is sandy area where people lay on their towels which is nice. Private and peaceful too. However, the sand is a bit rough and also the water is very deep immediately, which wasn’t our cup of tea so we moved to Mae Nam nearby. Overall 2.5/5, I guess some people may find it beautiful

Tips for Visiting Beaches

Check Monsoon Windows

Andaman coast beaches (Phuket, Krabi) have rough seas May–October. Gulf beaches (Samui, Hua Hin) are roughest October–December. Plan your beach trip around these windows for calm water and safe swimming.

Go Early for Empty Sand

Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. Sunrise walks on Kata, Chaweng, or Railay are magical — and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
