Pai Rider
Pai Rider is a scooter riding school catering to complete beginners who want to explore Pai and the surrounding region on two wheels. Located at the edge of town in Tambon Wiang Tai, it fills a genuine gap for travellers who arrive in Pai — a town where scooters are the dominant way to get around — without any prior riding experience. The school has built a strong reputation on the back of its lead instructor, known as Thunder, who takes students through the fundamentals methodically before guiding them onto real country roads. Lessons cover throttle control, turning, braking, and handling different road situations, with the pace adjusted to each student's comfort level. Instructors are described by visitors as thorough, encouraging, and genuinely invested in building rider confidence rather than simply rushing through a checklist. Many students report feeling ready to rent a scooter independently after a single session — a meaningful outcome given Pai's winding mountain roads and varied terrain. Pai Rider lists open hours across all days, making it accessible for travellers with flexible itineraries. Those planning to rent a scooter during their time in Pai would do well to schedule a lesson here early in their stay, giving themselves time to actually use the skills gained. No prior riding experience is required, and the lessons appear to be conducted one-on-one or in small groups, keeping the instruction personal and hands-on.

Visitor Reviews
Kru Thunder is a really great guy. He very thoroughly explained to me the operations of the scooter and took me on a practice drive through the country roads. He is very careful to make sure you do not crash. After the scooter driving lessons he even offered to buy me lunch at his favorite restaurant and shared with me his life story. When I dropped off the scooter after my rental he offered to drive me back to my hotel. He even gave me a coconut to drink while I waited. By the end of my vacation in Pai Thailand I was a skilled scooter driver. Thunder really cares about his customers and their well being. He is very kind. ~ Sirius Cyrus
I would give more stars if I could it’s so deserved! I did a lesson here & it was very clearly explained about the bike, how to maneuver the bike & different situations you might find yourself in. I can’t recommend Pai rider enough they really care & want you to be cautious and take your time to learn. I also rented a bike out on multiple occasions after from here the process was easy and quick to do! We will be back :)
Brilliant instructor is thunder, taught the basics, understanding the throttle, turning and braking and then when confident in our ability took us on the road. Real confidence booster, couldn't recommend more if you want to learn how to ride a scooter. From no confidence to being sure in my ability, top guy too!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
