Dinner only, and a short one at that. The doors open at 5pm and the kitchen stops at 9pm, seven days a week, so this isn't a place you drift into late after a long boat day. Turn up by half seven and you've got room to order properly.
What you're getting is Thai food cooked for Thai palates, not toned down for tourists. If you've been eating watered-down curries on the beach strip, this is the correction. Mid-range prices, nothing fancy about the setting, and a local following that keeps the tables turning. I'd order at least one dish you don't recognize and let the heat land where it lands.
The catch is the address. Sai Thai sits inland from Ao Nang and the pier, well away from where most people are staying, so you're looking at a taxi or a scooter each way. Worth it if you care about the food. Not worth it if you just want something close to your hotel.
