Take the Van From the Airport or Town, the Boat From Ao Nang
Krabi to Koh Lanta is about 80–100 km by road with one short car ferry, and the right way depends on where you're starting and the month. From Krabi airport, minivans run to your Lanta hotel from about 08:00 to 20:30 for about ฿400–540 and take 2–2.5 hours, which makes the airport the easiest starting point there is. From Krabi Town, vans and Phantip's buses leave roughly hourly until about 16:45. From Ao Nang, vans run through the day, and the boat is the nicer ride. Bundhaya's speedboat leaves Nopparat Thara pier at 10:10 and Railay East at 10:30 even in October, and from November the Ao Nang Princess and more speedboats join it. Boats from Krabi Town's Klong Jilad pier run only from November to April. A private car is about ฿2,100–3,300 and takes about two hours. Every road trip crosses the car ferry from Hua Hin pier to Lanta Noi, where the queue can stretch to hours in December and January. Boats from Krabi Town run only November to April
The Lanta Super Concord ferry leaves Klong Jilad at 11:00 (about ฿516) and Andaman Wave Master at 09:40 in high season. In October nothing leaves Klong Jilad.
The car ferry can add hours in high season
Every road trip crosses the short car ferry from Hua Hin pier to Lanta Noi. In December and January the queue can stretch for kilometers; a mainland bridge has been contracted and is due around 2029.

From Krabi Airport, the Van to Your Hotel
Until 20:30, with a hotel drop on Lanta
Most people fly into Krabi and go straight to Lanta, and the minivans make it easy. Jijie leaves the airport hourly from 08:30 to 18:30 for about ฿429, Black Tiger runs hourly until 16:30 plus a 19:30, and At Lanta Vacation has the latest departures, 18:30 and 20:30, for about ฿399, arriving on Lanta about two hours later. All of them drop at your hotel, along the west-coast beaches from Klong Dao to Klong Nin. If your flight lands after about 20:00, book a private car (about ฿2,100–3,300 on the booking sites), because the last scheduled van leaves at 20:30.
Book the van online or at the counters in arrivals. In high season, book ahead and allow for the car-ferry queue on the way, which can turn a two-hour trip into three or four.
From Krabi Town or Ao Nang, Van or Boat
Roughly hourly vans, and the boats that run in October
From Krabi Town, hotel-pickup vans run roughly hourly from about 07:40 to 16:40, and Phantip's buses leave the bus terminal every hour from 08:00 to 16:00 for about ฿410, dropping at Saladan pier 2.5 hours later. From Ao Nang, vans collect from hotels from about 07:00 and drop at your Lanta beach, from about ฿400 to ฿585 for the beach-drop services and up to ฿820 for the last evening van.
The boat is the nicer way from Ao Nang and Railay, and it runs in low season. Bundhaya's speedboat leaves Nopparat Thara pier at 10:10 and the floating pier on Railay East at 10:30 and reaches Lanta around 11:40–12:00 for about ฿1,215. From November to April, Bundhaya adds 13:00 and 14:40 sailings, Andaman Wave Master runs from Klong Jilad, Ao Nang and Railay at 09:40–10:15 (about ฿1,150), and the Ao Nang Princess ferry leaves Nopparat Thara at 10:30 for about ฿670.

The Car Ferry, the Queue and the Bridge
Why the same van can take two hours or four
Every road trip to Lanta crosses a short car ferry from Hua Hin pier on the mainland to Lanta Noi, then the Siri Lanta bridge to Lanta Yai, where the beaches are. The ferry runs back and forth all day and leaves when it's full. Most of the year that adds little, but in December and January the queue stretches for kilometers and waits of hours have been reported, so on a tight schedule take the boat from Ao Nang or leave early. A bridge from the mainland to Lanta Noi has been contracted, with work due to take about three years, so expect the ferry until around 2029.
