Lamai Fresh Food Market
Sitting along Lamai Beach Road in Koh Samui's Maret district, this working neighbourhood market operates as a genuine community hub rather than a tourist attraction, despite drawing curious visitors alongside its regular local clientele. Stalls stock fresh tropical fruits, vegetables, locally caught seafood, and ready-to-eat Thai dishes prepared by resident vendors — the kind of place that offers a candid window into everyday island life and local food habits. The atmosphere is authentically Thai, with vendors conducting business primarily in Thai and prices reflecting local rather than tourist rates. The market is modest in size, and the selection shifts throughout the day as stalls wind down in the afternoon, so timing matters. Fruit juices and fresh coconuts are consistently well regarded by visitors, and the surrounding eateries offer freshly cooked meals using market produce at reasonable prices. Travellers with specific dietary requirements — particularly vegans — should note that plant-based options are limited, with prepared foods leaning heavily toward traditional Thai ingredients and flavours. Good to know: the market opens at 6:00 AM every day of the week and runs until 8:00 PM, but mornings offer the widest selection and the freshest stock. Bringing small denominations of Thai baht is strongly advisable, as most vendors operate on a cash-only basis. For those staying self-catering accommodation nearby, it serves as a practical and affordable source of quality local ingredients.

Visitor Reviews
I had such an authentic local experience at Lamai Fresh Food Market in Lamai! This market feels truly local — not touristy at all — and most of the vendors are friendly residents selling fresh produce, street food, and everyday Thai ingredients. Prices are incredibly reasonable, with tasty snacks and meals costing so much less than other spots on the island. The atmosphere is relaxed and real, with locals shopping and chatting long after work, and the market typically closes around 8 PM, which is perfect for an evening wander before dinner. I loved trying the local Thai dishes and picking up fresh fruit to take home. Great place to see real Samui life and eat well without spending much
I love fresh food markets. I make sure that every place I visit, I take out some time to go to their fresh food market. This helps me understand the regional culture, their food habbit and also gives me a golden opportunity to eat what locals eat there. At Lamai I found one of the tastiest coconut pudding along other Thai foods. The range is crazy.. and the taste of freshly cooked food is probably the best. There is variety of vegetarian options available as well.
A fresh food market, lot's call a wet market, with a good number of eateries around the market. The food is fresh and local. The meals served up are of good quality with fresh produce and well priced.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
