Keereetara Riverside

4.9(11,379 reviews)$$$$

Come for the view first. The tables along the water look straight out at the River Kwai and the famous bridge, and if you time it for late afternoon you get the river in proper daylight before the sunset crowd arrives. Arriving early also matters for a practical reason: the riverside tables go first, and the ones set back are a different experience entirely.

The menu is long, covering Thai standards and some fusion, which makes it easy with a group where everyone wants something different. Chicken with cashews, deep-fried shrimp cakes, sticky rice with grilled chicken and papaya salad all come up in reviews. When termite mushrooms are in season, the stir-fry with holy basil and oyster sauce is the thing people rave about. Presentation is consistently strong, though not every dish lands as well as it looks, and a few diners have found vegetables overcooked. Service gets praised more often than not, but when it's full, it can drag. Live music plays some evenings and does lift the room.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romantic Riverside Dining – A Must-Visit! We had an incredible dinner here for a group of 4. The service was excellent—attentive and professional. One tip: the food is prepared fresh, so it isn’t slow, but I highly recommend arriving early to secure a prime table along the riverside. The view is stunning! The atmosphere is perfect for a cosy and romantic night out, especially with the live band playing in the background. It really elevates the whole dining experience. As for the food, every dish was on point. They have a wide selection of fish dishes, all of which were fresh and flavorful. For a party of four, the price was very reasonable considering the quality and the setting. If you are visiting the area, I would highly recommend stopping here for a meal!

Keereetara Riverside is a solid spot if you're looking for a relaxing vibe by the river. It’s pretty quiet and tucked away, which is nice. They’ve got a huge menu with everything from local dishes to some fusion stuff, so it’s definitely a good place to bring a group since there’s something for everyone. We ordered the chicken with cashews, the deep-fried shrimp cakes, and the sticky rice with grilled chicken and papaya salad. Everything tasted good, but the shrimp cakes didn't quite hit the level of our personal favorites, and the chicken with cashews was a bit of a miss—it came in that lumpy, sweet-and-sour-style sauce you find at a lot of basic spots, which just isn't our thing. The service is generally professional—they greet you nicely and walk you to your table, and the staff are very attentive. However, a couple of things felt a bit out of place for this level of restaurant. To start, the staff didn't place the plates in front of us; they just left them on the side of the table, making it awkward for us to keep reaching over to pull everything into the middle. They also have a habit of walking around while you’re eating to upsell sweets like cookies or crisps; while I’d actually love to try samples of those, they should offer them either before the meal arrives or wait until we're finished. Finally, they bring the cutlery out in plastic bags, which feels a little cheap—for a place with this kind of atmosphere, I’d expect it to be wrapped in a nice napkin or come in high-quality paper bags instead. The plating is nice, but they lean pretty hard into the side salad and crispy noodle thing for many dishes. It feels unnecessary, especially for Thai dishes; I wish they would use fresh Thai vegetables if they want to offer a palate cleanser. It gets a bit repetitive, and we think they could do something more creative without all that extra filler. Overall, it’s a nice enough place for the atmosphere and the view, but the execution of some of those little details could be stepped up. I know these are all little things, but for a place at this level, you expect a certain standard. If you’re in the area, it’s a good spot for a nice, even romantic dinner. It’s not necessarily a mind-blowing experience, but the food is good quality and the vibe is perfectly tailored to that classic riverside setting.

Location and atmosphere is great. An amazing view over the river Kwai and the river Kwai bridge. Service was also nice. They have a lot of options for authentic Thai food and also different food options. The presentation of the dishes was very good, but not every dish tasted as good as it looked. Some vegetables were overcooked and the chicken wings had way too many spices (none of the food was actually spicy however), but the overall experience was good.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
