Keereetara Riverside
Perched along the banks of the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, this popular Thai restaurant pairs authentic local cuisine with sweeping river views that include the famed Bridge over the River Kwai. The setting is relaxed and tucked away from the bustle, attracting both tourists and locals who come as much for the atmosphere as the food. On some evenings, live music adds to the ambience, making it a natural choice for a leisurely dinner. The menu is extensive, covering a wide range of Thai dishes prepared fresh to order. Seasonal specialities appear when available — visitors during certain months have highlighted the stir-fried termite mushrooms as a standout. The food leans toward gourmet-level Thai cooking rather than casual street fare, and the service is consistently described as attentive. Pricing sits in the mid-range, keeping it accessible without feeling like a budget compromise. Keereetara Riverside is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, covering everything from a late lunch through to dinner. Because food is prepared fresh, dishes may take a little longer to arrive during busy periods — worth keeping in mind if time is tight. Arriving in the late afternoon allows diners to enjoy the river views in natural light before sunset, which tends to be a highlight of the experience. The restaurant maintains a Facebook page for updates on hours and events.

Visitor Reviews
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Romantic Riverside Dining – A Must-Visit! We had an incredible dinner here for a group of 4. The service was excellent—attentive and professional. One tip: the food is prepared fresh, so it isn’t slow, but I highly recommend arriving early to secure a prime table along the riverside. The view is stunning! The atmosphere is perfect for a cosy and romantic night out, especially with the live band playing in the background. It really elevates the whole dining experience. As for the food, every dish was on point. They have a wide selection of fish dishes, all of which were fresh and flavorful. For a party of four, the price was very reasonable considering the quality and the setting. If you are visiting the area, I would highly recommend stopping here for a meal!
A fantastic restaurant in every way. Gourmet level Thai dishes coupled with attentive service. Outstanding riverside views, including the famed Bridge over the River Kwai. Live music some evenings as well. We were there for a stunning sunset dinner. Unforgettable.
Keereetara Riverside is a solid spot if you're looking for a relaxing vibe by the river. It’s pretty quiet and tucked away, which is nice. They’ve got a huge menu with everything from local dishes to some fusion stuff, so it’s definitely a good place to bring a group since there’s something for everyone. We ordered the chicken with cashews, the deep-fried shrimp cakes, and the sticky rice with grilled chicken and papaya salad. Everything tasted good, but the shrimp cakes didn't quite hit the level of our personal favorites, and the chicken with cashews was a bit of a miss—it came in that lumpy, sweet-and-sour-style sauce you find at a lot of basic spots, which just isn't our thing. The service is generally professional—they greet you nicely and walk you to your table, and the staff are very attentive. However, a couple of things felt a bit out of place for this level of restaurant. To start, the staff didn't place the plates in front of us; they just left them on the side of the table, making it awkward for us to keep reaching over to pull everything into the middle. They also have a habit of walking around while you’re eating to upsell sweets like cookies or crisps; while I’d actually love to try samples of those, they should offer them either before the meal arrives or wait until we're finished. Finally, they bring the cutlery out in plastic bags, which feels a little cheap—for a place with this kind of atmosphere, I’d expect it to be wrapped in a nice napkin or come in high-quality paper bags instead. The plating is nice, but they lean pretty hard into the side salad and crispy noodle thing for many dishes. It feels unnecessary, especially for Thai dishes; I wish they would use fresh Thai vegetables if they want to offer a palate cleanser. It gets a bit repetitive, and we think they could do something more creative without all that extra filler. Overall, it’s a nice enough place for the atmosphere and the view, but the execution of some of those little details could be stepped up. I know these are all little things, but for a place at this level, you expect a certain standard. If you’re in the area, it’s a good spot for a nice, even romantic dinner. It’s not necessarily a mind-blowing experience, but the food is good quality and the vibe is perfectly tailored to that classic riverside setting.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
