EatSmith
Sitting in Tambon Tha Ma Kham near the heart of Kanchanaburi, EatSmith draws a mixed crowd of locals and travellers with a broad menu spanning authentic Thai dishes and Western-style cuisine. The kitchen earns consistent praise across both camps, with visitors noting the freshness of the fish, the quality of the Thai cooking, and an unexpectedly accomplished approach to Western food that has impressed even seasoned diners from abroad. The spacious dining room comfortably accommodates large groups, and the atmosphere is elevated by live music, a well-stocked bar featuring beer on tap in multiple varieties, wine, and other drinks. Expect friendly, attentive service in a relaxed but lively setting. Prices sit at the mid-range level, offering solid value given the food quality and overall experience. The restaurant is open every day from 11:00 to 22:00, making it a convenient stop for lunch or dinner when exploring nearby attractions such as the Bridge over the River Kwai. Good to know: EatSmith closes at 22:00, and some visitors have arrived late without being informed of the closing time in advance, which can make the final service feel rushed. Arriving by 20:30 at the latest allows enough time to enjoy the meal at a comfortable pace. For updates or to check current details, the restaurant maintains a Facebook page listed on their website.

Visitor Reviews
As a USA Midwesterner who loves all types of food, but was ready for some upscale American cuisine, we were thoroughly impressed. The chef put any restaurant I've been to, to shame. We had large beers, appetisers, the German Pork Knuckle, Barracuda over white sauce, and wagyu steak. We had a miscommunication about how well done the steak should have been, but we visited on new years day and we don't speak Thai, unfortunately. Highly recommended!!
We reached late but the team was very kind to accommodate us. It was recommended by one of my friends there, So we decided to go and try. Ford is really good. The staff is super nice and very attentive. Plenty of parking available. Bathrooms are clean but it's for the entire surrounding, Live music was good. Selection of beverages is also very good.
Good food. Real local Thai taste. Have live music. Fish is fresh. Reasonable price.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
