Ghin

4.9(141 reviews)

Ghin occupies a considered space on Samlarn Road in the historic Phra Sing neighbourhood, operating as the dining venue for The Inside House and drawing both hotel guests and independent visitors with its creative approach to Thai cuisine. The kitchen works with fresh, quality ingredients to produce dishes that honour northern Thai traditions while showing genuine culinary ambition — highlights noted by diners include a delicate Lanna tomato paste soup with green gnocchi and bisque prawns, a scallop pomelo salad, and fried sea bass, pointing to a menu that spans both land and sea. The atmosphere is described by visitors as beautiful and comfortable, with service that stands out for its warmth and attentiveness. The kitchen has shown willingness to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies, making it a practical choice for groups with different needs. The setting near Chiang Mai's Old City temples adds to its appeal as a relaxed meal stop during or after a day of sightseeing. Good to know: Ghin opens at noon most days and closes at 10 PM, with Tuesday being the exception — doors open as early as 7 AM and service continues until 11 PM. For those wanting to guarantee a table, particularly during peak tourist season, checking the restaurant's website at the-insidehouse.com ahead of time is advisable. The address on Samlarn Road places it within easy reach of Wat Phra Singh and other Old City landmarks.

Visitor Reviews

We were staying at The Inside House, so ate here multiple times over the course of a few days. The staff are welcoming and very helpful, and the chef catered to all our dietary requirements (one allergy to nuts, and the other allergy to seafood). Whether eating here for breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner, the menu choices are extensive, and every dish we ate was beautifully presented and delicious. A visit to this lovely restaurant is highly recommended!

Very gentile service. Excellent plates. I enjoyed the “La Vie Ong Rose” plate: it’s a delicate soup with Lanna tomato paste, green gnocchi, bisque prawns. Delicious! I liked the fried sea bass with tamarind sauce too. Local vegetables were served with eggs. I had a freshly squeezed juice to drink, and you can choose from a vast variety of fruit and veg juice options.

Amazing food and staff - you must eat here. Delicious, Thai food with great flavours and fresh ingredients. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and everything we tried was excellent. Highly recommend - Som was really nice and took loads of photos for us!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
