Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Why go, and how to do it well
Kaizen Coffee is the Ekkamai café that keeps turning up on coffee lovers' shortlists. Two siblings who learned the trade in Australia run it from a two-story glass-walled building at the top of Ekkamai Road, and the approach is coffee first, espresso and filter done carefully, with no cream-topped novelty drinks on the menu. The kitchen serves a proper breakfast and brunch, with egg plates, açaí bowls, pastas and cakes.
There are two floors of seating, but weekends are crowded. Prices for the food are on the high side for Bangkok, closer to a brunch café than a coffee bar.
It opens at 07:30, closes at 16:30 and is closed on Tuesdays. It sits at the far end of Ekkamai Road from the BTS, so a short taxi or motorbike ride is easier than the walk in the heat. Ekkamai's other cafés and the Thong Lo restaurants are close for the rest of the day.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
Use Grab for Delivery
The Grab app works for food delivery across Thailand, letting you order from street stalls and restaurants alike. It's invaluable on rainy days or when you want to eat in your hotel.
