If your plan for Bangkok involves eating and drinking your way through Thonglor rather than taxiing across town to get there, this is where I'd put you. Thong Lo BTS is about five minutes on foot, and the neighborhood's cocktail rooms, izakayas, natural-wine bars and coffee places spread out from the door. Rates sit well under the riverside heavyweights, which is why I usually suggest it to people on a second or third trip who've already done the Chao Phraya hotels and would rather spend the money on dinner.
The design leans Parisian apartment with a Bangkok twist, all marble, brass and plants. There's a rooftop pool and bar with the Sukhumvit skyline in front of you, best around sunset before the drinks crowd arrives. It's a boutique property, not a resort, so don't come expecting sprawling grounds or a kids' club. Come for a comfortable room in a genuinely good location.
