HONG's Sky Bar

4.9(520 reviews)

Perched atop the InterContinental Chiang Mai on Sridonchai Road, Hong's Sky Bar offers an elevated escape from the city's street-level bustle. Accessed via a dedicated elevator, the rooftop venue draws visitors with sweeping panoramic views across Chiang Mai, a polished atmosphere, and a menu centred on Chinese cuisine and signature cocktails. The space is intimate in scale, with a cosy, traditional aesthetic that reviewers describe as carrying a noticeable Indian-inspired decorative sensibility alongside its refined hotel setting.

The food menu leans Chinese, with dishes like cucumber salad earning repeat praise from regulars, while the cocktail list is a consistent highlight. Service is a standout feature, with staff frequently singled out by visitors for being attentive, warm, and professional. That said, those expecting a broad bar menu may find the food selection on the limited side, so it is worth checking the current menu in advance if dining is the primary draw.

I absolutely loved our time at Hong's Rooftop Bar. It is at the top of the InterContinental hotel and you take the elevator specifically for the bar and restaurant. The staff is super friendly and the view is gorgeous. We had a table on the outer edge of the rooftop so we could comfortably lounge and enjoy our drinks while looking out across the city. The cocktails are beautiful and they have a pretty nice wine menu as well. We loved all the appetizers that we got. The cucumber salad is so refreshing and delicious. The vegetable spring rolls are also pretty good. We also got the chicken nuggets which were basically like fast food nuggets. Not bad! Just funny to have gotten them at such a nice rooftop. Would definitely love to come back and highly recommend this spot! Now for my standard comments. Location is very clean and well kept. Seems handicap accessible as well due to the elevator and I do not believe there were any stairs as we made our way around the rooftop.

The place is quite small but has a cozy feel. It carries a noticeable Indian-style vibe in its decor and ambiance. The interiors are simple and traditional. Seating space is a little compact. It can feel slightly crowded during busy hours. However, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The setup gives it a homely touch. Cleanliness is properly maintained. It’s a decent spot for a casual visit. Overall, a small yet culturally charming place. ✨

I was confident going in that i'd enjoy this spot so was quite surprised to be disappointed! Fabulous seating and location. Enjoyed a lovely cocktail and a glass of rose. Limited bar menu of Chinese specialities - I tried the prawns and enjoyed. It was the service that disappointed - my cocktail was empty and I had to call someone over to order a glass of wine. No check in to see if I needed anything drink wise 😕 and no check in during the food to see if I'd enjoyed -or wanted anything more - or afterwards to clear up/see if I'd enjoyed etc. I had to ask for the bill - with my empty plates and glass in front of me. Really wanted to rave about this place - perhaps being a solo woman didn't help? I still enjoyed but a definite thumbs down with the service intercontinental 😞

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars

Carry Your Passport or a Copy

Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.

Know the Closing Times

Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.

Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously

Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
