Scorpion Bar
Tucked into the "boxing ring triangle" area adjacent to Loi Kroh Road in Chiang Mai, Scorpion Bar is a recently refurbished neighbourhood bar with a distinctive personality. The standout feature — a tank of live scorpions on the premises — sets the tone for an experience that leans into its name. Beyond the novelty, the bar offers a genuinely comfortable space with a couple of TV screens, pool tables (including a striking purple table), karaoke for those who want to join in, and open-air seating out front where guests can relax and soak in the street atmosphere. The crowd here tends to be a mix of locals and returning travellers, with some visitors coming back specifically to reconnect with the owners, Toi and Malcolm, who have built a loyal following over the years. Cold beers and a casual, sociable vibe make it a solid choice for an easy evening without the intensity of Chiang Mai's busier nightlife strips. For those visiting during the cooler months between November and February, the outdoor seating area is particularly pleasant in the evening air. While specific opening hours are not confirmed online, the bar is best suited for an evening visit. Anyone curious about the scorpion tank should feel free to ask the staff, who are reportedly happy to oblige.

Great bar and loved catching up with Toi & Malcolm who we met in 2018 at their old place. Will be back am sure!
A recently refurbished bar in the 'boxing ring triangle' area adjacent to Loi Kroh. Spacious with a couple of TV screens, pool tables and interesting decor - including a tank of scorpions! Good music being played whilst we were there, and interesting stuff on the walls. Friendly, helpful staff, and the owner welcomed us.

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
