Banzaan Fresh Market

4.3(15,245 reviews)

Banzaan Fresh Market on Nanai Road in Patong offers one of the more hands-on food experiences in Phuket. The ground floor operates as a working fresh market, with stalls selling live seafood, fresh produce, and local ingredients. Visitors select what they want, then take their purchases upstairs to a busy food court where multiple cooking stalls prepare the seafood to order in a range of styles. Beyond seafood, the upper floor serves a wide variety of authentic Thai dishes, making it a genuine alternative to the standard tourist restaurant circuit in Patong.

The atmosphere is informal and unpretentious, drawing a genuine mix of locals and visitors. It functions as an everyday market rather than a polished dining venue, and that is a significant part of its appeal. Prices are generally more affordable than beachfront restaurants nearby, though the market draws a tourist crowd and seafood pricing downstairs can be aggressive — it pays to confirm costs before committing to a purchase.

Arriving earlier in the evening gives the best seafood selection and a less crowded experience. Bargaining is expected when buying from the ground floor stalls, and taking a moment to browse the upper floor before settling on a cooking stall is worthwhile, as quality and menus vary between vendors. Cash is strongly recommended, as card payments are not universally accepted. Comfortable, casual clothing suits the open, warm market environment.

Reviews from Google

Banzaan Fresh Market in Patong is definitely a must-visit. It’s one of the most enjoyable places to explore and taste a wide variety of local food and drinks. You can sample so many different flavors and discover authentic local products all in one place. I personally went especially for the fruit stalls and loved it. You can buy any fruit individually, which makes it perfect for trying new things without committing to large portions. It’s a great spot if you want to taste local specialties and explore Thai flavors. The stall owners are also very kind and helpful to tourists, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Patong!

This place is amazing! You pick out your own live seafood downstairs from the market, then bring it upstairs to the foodcourt to be cooked. Lots of food stalls with different menus to choose from. We did lobster, prawns, and scallops. Also had a few other thsi dishes and some Singha beer of course. Be sure to negotiate a little for the price of the seafood from the downstairs market. Lots of locaks were eating here. Definitely check it out.

Plenty of live seafood to choose from — just pick what you want downstairs and bring it up to be cooked. It’s definitely not the cheapest, but worth trying at least once. Just be careful not to get too greedy, haha! We went for lobster and ended up adding fish, clams, crab, and shrimp — it turned out quite pricey per person, but still good value compared to my home country.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls

Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
