The Nine Restaurant
Situated along the riverside strip of Maenamkwai Road in central Kanchanaburi, The Nine Restaurant is a Thai eatery that draws repeat visitors with consistently well-executed home-style cooking and attentive service. The menu covers classic Thai dishes including pad kra pao, pad Thai, papaya salad, coconut chicken soup, and seafood curries — the kind of straightforward, flavourful cooking that keeps diners coming back night after night. The restaurant offers both air-conditioned indoor seating and an outdoor area, giving diners flexibility depending on the weather and their preference. The space is clean and well-lit, with an atmosphere that is relaxed rather than elaborate — comfortable for families with children, solo travellers, and groups alike. Portions lean on the smaller side, though the quality of the food is generally considered to compensate. Pricing is described by visitors as reasonable, making it a practical choice for travellers managing a budget. Good to know: The Nine is open seven days a week from 10:00 to 21:00, including Tuesday, making it a dependable option throughout any stay in Kanchanaburi. Its location on Maenamkwai Road places it within easy walking distance of many guesthouses and hotels in the area. Arriving slightly before or after peak meal hours can help secure a table without a wait, particularly during busy travel periods.

Visitor Reviews
We were in Kanchanaburi for 3 nights and ate here every night. The food was superb and the service charming. We forgot to take photos for 2 of the meals but the one pictured was coconut chicken soup, fish in lime chilli and garlic and eggplant salad, all of which were superb. I highly recommend this restaurant, the high ratings are not an exaggeration.
Food is delicious. The restaurant is very clean and well lit. Has outdoor and airconditioned seating. Staff is attentive and courteous. Highly recommended.Reasonable price.
Clean, airy, great food and great service. Not overpriced and you can feel at ease to bring your kids here. Very good overall.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
