Why go, and how to do it well
Klong Muang is a long, quiet beach in Nong Thale, 15 to 20 minutes northwest of Ao Nang, and it's where Krabi's resort hotels went when they wanted their own sand. It runs a long way and faces west toward the Hong Islands, so sunset is the main event. Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra, Varana and Nakamanda are among the resorts on or just behind it.
Choose it if the resort is the point of the trip. There's no promenade and little nightlife, only a few beach bars and restaurants toward the north end and along the road behind, and the busy part of Krabi is a car ride away. Ao Nang is the place for dinner out, and Tubkaek, the next beach north, is quieter still.
The water is shallow and calm in the dry season and best at high tide. At low tide the sea draws back over rocks and you can walk most of the way to the small island off the beach. Bring water shoes, since reviewers mention shells and coral fragments underfoot. Longtail boats park along one section, and the stretches in front of the hotels are mostly used by their guests.

Great beach and one of the nicest in the area. There are noticeably fewer people compared to other beaches, which makes it much more peaceful and relaxing. The views are beautiful, and there are cafés and restaurants within walking distance. Sunbeds are available for 100 baht per day, which is very reasonable. There are tides, but they feel less noticeable here than on other nearby beaches. Overall, a very beautiful and comfortable beach — definitely worth visiting.
Klong Muang Beach offered the most beautiful sunset I saw visiting Krabi. On the night of fullmoon the whole sky turned pink as the sun set. The beach itself is fine and many locals come here. I arrived in good time for the sunset so I could go for a swing before the sun set. Deifnitely worth a visit of in the area.
The beach is beautiful and clean, but it's strictly divided. One part is crowded with parked boats, and the other half is occupied by private hotels where you aren't allowed to sunbathe—staff will ask you to move. You either have to stay in the boat area or walk all the way to the right towards the small island. The sunset is breathtaking, but I highly recommend wearing water shoes when swimming. There are a lot of shells and coral fragments on the bottom that can cut your feet.
