Thai Cooking Class by Sawasdee Thai Cuisine

5.0(554 reviews)

Located in the quieter Karon district of Phuket, this cooking school offers a structured, hands-on introduction to authentic Thai cuisine led by experienced chefs and guides. Classes follow a satisfying arc: participants begin with a guided visit to a nearby fresh market to source ingredients and learn about the produce fundamental to Thai cooking, before returning to prepare and eat a multi-course meal. Dishes commonly covered include pad see ew, tom yum, and papaya salad, with instructors walking participants through techniques, flavour balancing, and the cultural context behind each recipe.

Classes run in small groups, which allows for direct interaction with instructors and a relaxed, social atmosphere. The format suits couples, solo travellers, and small groups equally well, and instructors are noted for being approachable and clear in their teaching. Participants leave with both the skills to recreate dishes at home and a practical understanding of Thai ingredients that is difficult to gain elsewhere.

Reviews from Google

Whenever I travel I take a cooking class so I have quite a few to compare this one to and I have to say this one is top notch. It was very hands on so I really felt like I could go home and duplicate the dishes I made. Beer and Korn were the chefs that led me through every step of the way and spoke English and communicated well. It happened that I was the only one in the class and they didn’t cancel it which I really appreciated. The class was held in the restaurant and was so well organized with plenty to eat. So much that they offered for me to bring my husband to enjoy the dinner with me. They are kind and lovely teachers and made the experience so much fun. I highly recommend this cooking experience. A highlight of our time here in Phuket and a lovely way to end out Thai vacation.

One of our favorite experiences in Thailand was this cooking class with Chef Jan. First Beer took us to the market. Then we made 3 courses, taking time to enjoy each one. The ingredients were already measured out. Great class for people with little experience (me) or lots of experience (my wife). The food was delicious. The people were fantastic, including Chef Jan, Beer, Pook, and everyone. Highly recommended.

Such a fun class with Guide and Chef Saw! Very easy to understand and we learned how to make veggie pad see ew, tom yum and papaya salad. They are lovely people and really had a laugh with us. We were lucky enough to have the class to ourselves so we could really utilise their expertise and ask questions. Highly recommend this class!!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
