Ya's Krabi Thai Cookery
This highly regarded cookery school in Ao Nang gives travellers a genuine, hands-on introduction to Thai cuisine, guided by instructors who bring energy, warmth, and genuine culinary knowledge to every class. What sets it apart is the personalised approach — participants choose which dishes they want to cook rather than following a fixed menu, making the experience relevant to individual tastes and dietary preferences. Classes have covered dishes including green curry, pad thai, spring rolls, yum soup, and sticky rice, with everything prepared and eaten on the day. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, well-suited to solo travellers, couples, and small groups alike. Instructors including Ya, Ling, and Wian are frequently praised by visitors for their approachable teaching style and ability to make the session both informative and enjoyable. A cookbook is included, giving participants a practical resource to recreate dishes at home. Groups are kept small enough to allow for meaningful interaction and hands-on involvement throughout. Good to know: The school is located in Tambon Ao Nang, a well-connected coastal area with plenty of nearby accommodation and dining. Each participant cooks a substantial amount of food, so arriving with an appetite is advisable. Comfortable clothing is recommended for kitchen work. As specific opening hours and booking details are not listed online, contacting the school directly in advance is strongly recommended to confirm class times, availability, and group sizes — particularly during the busy dry season from November to April.

Visitor Reviews
This Thai cooking school was such a great experience. The class was dynamic and fun, the food turned out absolutely delicious, and our instructor Ya was just amazing, super cool and full of positive energy. The whole group had a great vibe, which made everything even better. We spent a fantastic afternoon together, cooking, laughing and enjoying really good food. Honestly, such a memorable and tasty day.
This was such an amazing experience! We would definitely come back to Aonang just to take this class again. Each person got to choose the dishes they made, and the chefs that guide you were so lovely and helpful. We made everything ourselves from start to finish, and had so much food we had some to take home.
Went here today and it was awesome - Ling was our lead chef, and she was terrific. There were six of us doing the course and so we had lots of options on the variety of meals we cooked. Food tasted absolutely fanatics. Highly recommended - cost 1600 baht - well worth it!!!
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
