Khroua Baan Thai
Khroua Baan Thai is a cooking school in Chiang Mai's Chang Phueak neighbourhood where visitors learn to prepare authentic Thai dishes under the guidance of knowledgeable, welcoming instructors. What sets this school apart is its availability in both English and French, making it accessible to a broader range of travellers. Classes go beyond recipe-following, introducing participants to local produce, traditional ingredients, and the cultural context behind the dishes — an approach that reviewers consistently describe as genuinely educational rather than purely recreational. Sessions are hands-on throughout, covering ingredient selection, preparation techniques, and cooking multiple dishes from scratch. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-oriented, with instructors praised for their patience, humour, and personal attention. Participants leave with a recipe booklet to recreate dishes at home, adding lasting value to the experience. The school operates six days a week from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM, offering flexibility for travellers with varied itineraries. Booking in advance is strongly recommended, particularly during Chiang Mai's peak tourist season between November and February. Full details on class options and pricing are available on the school's website at chiangmai-cooking.com. Comfortable, casual clothing is advisable, as classes involve extended time standing and working in a kitchen environment.

Visitor Reviews
Great experience with Pooh, Yves and their son and staff ! Very friendly and professionnal, we felt at home. The recipes are easy to understand and the results are delicious !
I highly recommend Pook and Folk's cooking class. It's meticulously organized, and the day flies by! You learn some of the finer points of Thai cuisine and leave with a recipe booklet, a real bonus for extending the magic back home. Having the class in French is a real plus, especially if you're not perfectly bilingual! And Folk speaks excellent French and has a great sense of humor. We learned, cooked, and tasted in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We were a group of eight—four adults and four children—and everyone was thrilled! Thank you to this lovely family!
An exceptional cooking class in French! The instructors really took the time to teach us and introduce us to the different local products, vegetables, and ingredients. I highly recommend this cooking class: it was delicious, fun, and a truly fantastic activity. We left with a small recipe book in French, containing all the recipes we prepared. A superb experience!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
