Elephant Jungle Sanctuary Pattaya Camp 1
Set within the jungle of Khao Mai Kaew in Banglamung district, this wildlife sanctuary and rescue facility offers one of the more conscientious ways to encounter elephants in the Pattaya region. Rather than staging performances, the sanctuary prioritises animal welfare, allowing elephants to live and move in a naturalistic environment. Visitors consistently note that the genuine care shown toward the animals sets this experience apart from more exploitative alternatives, making it a meaningful option for travellers with ethical wildlife interaction in mind. A typical visit includes feeding the elephants bananas and watermelon, applying mud baths, and walking alongside the animals through the surrounding jungle. Group sizes are kept small, guides are attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed and educational throughout. Some reviewers have highlighted the elephants' playful personalities and the unexpectedly humorous moments that come with close contact — mud, water, and the occasional surprise from the animals included. Good to know: The sanctuary is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, accommodating both half-day and full-day visits. Wear clothes that can get muddy and wet, as the bathing activities involve close physical contact with the elephants. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended given the outdoor terrain. Transportation pickup and drop-off from central Pattaya is commonly arranged through booking platforms such as Klook, with the journey taking approximately 30 to 40 minutes by air-conditioned vehicle. Booking in advance through the official website or a reputable tour platform is advisable, particularly during peak periods, to secure a preferred time slot.

Visitor Reviews
Absolutely amazing experience and well worth the price. Had a fantastic day from start to finish. Our driver was early for our pickup to the sanctuary, comfortable return trip in an air-conditioned van. When we arrived, we were greeted by our guides Dech and Tim, who were very engaging and entertaining, as well as knowledgeable. First off was feeding of the elephants, with plenty of elephants, food and time to enjoy the experience. We were able to take our own photos and video of the occasion but really appreciated our guides and the elephant handlers also taking photos on their camera as well as ours. This really gave us a chance to get up close with the elephants and see their different personalities, especially their preferences for food and the way they wanted to interact with us. The elephants are all rescues and are free to roam about, all seem happy which I could not say for other elephant experiences I have had in the past. The feeding was great, but the enjoyed the opportunity to bath the elephants even more. Scrubbing away the dirt from their skin, seeing and feeling their ears flapping when we scrubbed in just the right spot, and splashing away to wash them off while our guide continued to capture the memories on camera was something I will remember with joy forever! We left with a small gift to take back with us, snacks and massive smiles on our faces. Elephant Jungle Sanctuary also provide all photos captured on the day in full quality to download at no additional cost. Facilities were clean, there are showers and lockers available, just remember to bring a towel and anything else advised in the booking confirmation. Thank you EJS Pattaya and especially Dech and Tim for an incredible day - we will visit again any time we get the chance!
It was a FANTASTIC experience! The Elephants were lovely, cute and playful! 😃🌈 The "Feed & Bath Experience" was fun! You get to feed elephants with bananas and watermelons (from my memory). I experienced that a few minutes of waiting will cause the elephants to be hungry and their saliva is present. 😅 For the bathing, it was fun and they gave you a cover-up vest (forgot the name of the item) and you get to scrub the elephants. They had some snacks (like those small cakes in wrappers, biscuits, etc) and we can get 1 cold soft drink (either can or bottle). Coffee/Tea and Water in the water refill station is complimentary. They provide shampoo and body wash in the showers if you wish to shower off. But no conditioner, towels and dryers. So, you might want to follow their list of items to bring including your own towels and a Shower Cap if you have longer hair and do not want to get it wet. And, when leaving by their transport, the elephants actually raised their trunks to say "Farewell! Till next time!" (Did not manage to take a pic because it was only until a certain distance then I noticed it which was too late to take a photograph 😑) Anyway, the photographs that they took were of excellent quality. You have like 45 days to download after they have been uploaded onto the site. And they gave an elephant poop paper (1st photo) as a souvenir. Special thanks to Gogos/Gos, Desh and Tim for the lovely experience on 14th Jan 2026. 🌈
We had the most amazing time here. You can tell they truly care for the elephants (this was very important for us, to go to an ethical sanctuary)… and honestly we would go back just to hear the “Kangaroo” make his hilarious jokes. He is such a good guy. We did the 1.5hr feed and bathe, which was a perfect amount of time and interaction to get back to the hotel for lunch and a rest. Very reasonably priced and just a wonderful experience. Water and snacks provided, a gift bag at the end and a link to photos taken by a professional photographer throughout the time were unexpected surprises. The one thing that was a bit annoying was that we received an email saying to be ready at your hotel for pickup between 9.30-10am. It was very clear that if you weren’t ready, the car would leave without you. After we were picked up (at 9.28am but ready and waiting) we spent 15mins at the next hotel searching for a family who were not ready, but eventually decided to join us once they finished buying breakfast up the road. The last group did not get picked up until after 10am. I found that to be unfair. Would still 10/10 recommend.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
