Maya Square
Maya is a popular multi-storey shopping mall situated on Huay Kaew Road in central Chiang Mai, drawing both tourists and locals with its broad mix of international and local stores, a supermarket, pharmacies, souvenir shops, and boutiques. Its central location makes it a convenient stop whether visitors are running errands or simply filling an afternoon. The upper floors are a highlight for many visitors — the rooftop offers impressive views across the city toward the surrounding mountains, while a game zone provides entertainment for those looking for something beyond retail. A well-regarded food court on level four and additional dining options in the basement give visitors plenty of choices for a casual meal, with local Thai dishes and international options both represented. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with enough variety to keep a group occupied for several hours. Good to know: Maya operates daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it a reliable option any day of the week. The air-conditioned interior offers a welcome break during the hottest part of the day, particularly between noon and mid-afternoon when temperatures in Chiang Mai peak. Those staying near Nimman Road or the university area will find it especially convenient, as it sits within easy walking or riding distance of that neighbourhood.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
