Kanabnam View Seafood

4.7(4,108 reviews)$$$$

The boat ride is half the point. You leave from Chao Fah pier on the river side of Krabi town and you're there in about five minutes, at an open-air family-run place on the water with fish pens, mangrove islands and the odd long-tail sliding past. Reviewers mention free pick-up and return, and 100 baht more buys a short detour through the mangroves on the way. Aim to arrive around 5pm, when the breeze picks up and the light goes soft on the water.

Seafood comes from the fish farm on site, cooked plainly Thai, and the staff will tell you what came in that day and how it's best done. Mud crab curry and clams in lemongrass broth get named often. It's halal-certified. Not everyone thinks the value stacks up though: the 1,500 baht five-shellfish platter has drawn complaints about overcooked shellfish, and a big dinner for two can run to 2,000 baht. I'd skip the big platters and order two or three dishes the kitchen recommends.

Reviews from Google

Open air floating family-run seafood restaurant next to/on the river. Beautiful setting, slight breeze -- important in February -- incredible views of the river, mangrove islands, fish pens and occasional long tail on the river. 5 minute boat ride from Chao Fah pier (which is on the river side of Krabi). Free pick up and return. 100B extra for a trip through a mangrove island, a 5 minute detour and definitely worth it. 2000B for a big dinner for two of mud crab curry, clams in lemongrass broth, small langouste/giant prawn. Kingfishers dove into the water while Brahminy kites soared overhead. Our waitress fed the fish in the fish pens so that we could see the meter-long cobia, bass and others rise to the surface. Beware the lurkers below... huge groupers... One pen held spectacular reef fish as well. (Our waitress admitted that the fish had become pets so they didn't eat them.) As the shadows got long, a long tail boat brought a family of 4 to join us on our 20m x 30m 'dining room', and the muezzin called in the background. 10/10 fun, 10/10 awesome experience, 9/10 food. Go! Do it! Note - the boat leaves from very close to "The River" restaurant in Krabi. Call the resto for where to find the boat if it isn't obvious.

We came to this charming restaurant tucked into the middle of the forest for dinner and despite it being slightly logistically challenging as we had to take the boat from Railay beach, then car then boat again to this "mini island" it is totally worth the trip! The seafood is extremely fresh, seasoned to perfection and the spice level is adjusted for us central Thai folks! The staff here are very friendly and give us honest recommendation about the catch of the day and how it should be cooked. The atmosphere is great as we are on the floating platform on the waters right next to the mangrove. Would highly recommend for everyone who wants to experience authentic Southern Thai cuisine surrounded by fresh nature!

The staff were warm, friendly, and polite, and it was clear that everyone genuinely cares about providing good service, which we truly appreciated. Regarding the food, we felt that the pricing was relatively high compared to the overall quality. The five-shellfish platter, priced at 1,500 THB, may benefit from some refinement, as the shellfish was slightly overcooked, affecting both the flavor and texture. The fish dish and the curry were enjoyable, though we felt there is still room for enhancement to better match the price point. We hope this feedback can be helpful, as the restaurant has great potential, and we look forward to seeing further improvements in the future.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
